UNIVERSITY OF NORTH FLORIDA REQUEST FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT LEAVE POLICY Professional development leave shall be made available to faculty members who meet the requirements stated below. Such leaves are granted to increase a faculty member’s value to the University through enhanced opportunities for professional renewal, educational travel, study, formal education, research, writing, or other experiences of professional value, not as a reward for service. INSTRUCTIONS UNF Full Time, Non-Tenure Earning faculty members who wish to be considered for a professional development leave are required to submit a current curriculum vitae and the attached application form. Professional Development Leave applications should be submitted to the Chair of your department. After writing a recommendation for each applicant, the Department Chair should submit all application packages to the College Dean for subsequent review and recommendations. Faculty members, Chairs, and Deans are requested to observe the following deadlines and terms: a) 2016-17 Professional Development Leave Deadline: completed Professional Development Leave proposals are due in the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs by 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 16th, 2015. Provide 1 paper and 1 electronic copy. b) The Professional Development Leave Committee will begin deliberations as soon as possible after October 16, 2015. c) The results of the review process will be made available to all applicants before the end of the Fall Semester, 2015. d) The review of applications and subsequent Professional Development Leave selections by the committee are based on the quality of the application and its purported value to the faculty member, university, and profession. e) Within six weeks after returning to UNF, the faculty member must submit a brief written report of Professional Development Leave activities and their value to the university and faculty member.
