EL CAMINO COLLEGE Office of the President Minutes of the College Council Meeting of September 9, 2002 Present: Ms. Caldwell, Dr. Caldwell, Ms. Ely, Dr. Fallo, Mr. Hanson, Dr. Hata, Mr. Neesby, Ms. Pickens, Dr. Simon, Ms. Smith, and Ms. Stewart. Board Agenda There was some discussion about the woman who has been re-painting the bulletin board kiosks. It is unclear whether she is a volunteer. Ryan Mc Blaine wanted to give the woman recognition for her hard work. Dr. Caldwell will discuss with Ryan Mc Blaine and report back next week. Board policy 7400-Travel has a grammatical change, which President Fallo will amend during the Board Meeting. Frozen Positions The following positions listed in Category 1 on Vice President’s memo dated July 17, 2002 have been released for recruitment: Administrative Assistant – Business Division, Division Dean – Mathematical Sciences, Plumber, and Dispatcher. Cabinet will review the frozen positions on a monthly basis. President Fallo noted changes in class schedules brought about by the 16-week semester calendar and the need for someone to develop an appropriate schedule. Position and duties are being discussed and he hopes position can be opened soon. Facilities Master Plan This document is a “work in progress.” The schematics for all the buildings will not be available for several years and each division will be given an opportunity for input. President Fallo will present this information to the Academic Senate at its meeting on September 17th. Informational Campaign President Fallo gave a campaign update. Two organizations have opposed Measure E, Bill Eisen leads one group and Rick Marshall leads the second. The rebuttal argument in favor of Measure E prepared by Bill Eisen’s group was selected to be printed in voter pamphlet. The Campaign Committee is in court today in rebuttal of inaccuracies of reporting. The Campaign Committee has received funds of $210K to date. The Campaign Headquarters is located at 13849 Hawthorne Blvd., and an office manager will be hired. Planning & Budgeting Committee ECCE Representative Miriam Alario-Wolski will be the representative with Mike King as the alternate. The alternate must attend all meetings. Flex Credit for Faculty – Summer Committees It was decided that Julie Stewart would present this item to the Faculty Development Team. September 11 – Memorial Service There will be a brief service on the Student Activities Stage at 12:00 p.m. TEAM REPORTS Student and Community Advancement - Dr. Patricia Caldwell The Inglewood Center has 12 classes being offered this fall, including not-for-credit courses through Community Education. Three hundred students at Inglewood One Stop registered this fall. Associated Students Organization – Mr. Brian Neesby There will be a special election due to the fact that they have been using the wrong constitution. There will also be a constitutional review. Other activities are: voter registration, and car-wash fundraiser. Academic Affairs - Dr. Nadine I. Hata Curriculum meeting will be September 10, 2002. The classroom next to Financial Aid will be moving to the cafeteria. There are many errors in the new catalogue. Dr. Hata will report findings next week. Academic Senate – Ms. Julie Stewart The Senate is recruiting nominations for senators who teach part-time. Brian Neesby and Renee Dorn will give a presentation to Academic Senate on voter registration. Board policy 4020 – Curriculum and Program Review Approval will be presented to Academic Senate for approval. Administrative Services - Mr. Victor Hanson The Deli will be open in approximately two weeks.
