Minutes of the College Council Meeting of September 16, 2002
Present: Ms. Caldwell, Dr. Fallo, Mr. Hanson, Dr. Hata, Mr. Neesby, Ms. Pickens, Dr. Simon, Ms.
Smith, and Ms. Stewart.
Work Plan
President Fallo asked College Council members to give some thought about what they would like to
concentrate on this year. Some of the items for consideration are board policies, procedures, team
reports, improving communication campus wide, participation in state budget, and participation in
legislative issues. A suggestion was made to either schedule special meetings or dedicate one College
Council meeting per month to work on policies. This will be discussed further next week.
Policies
Ms. Stewart has reviewed the Index of El Camino Board Policies and Bylaws prepared by Janet
Clarke. The following updates were provided:
4110: Honorary Degrees – Academic Senate recommends not having this policy.
4040: Library – Ready for board approval, will be on October 7, 2002 agenda.
4050: Articulation – Number change replaces 6201 – both policies will be reviewed next
meeting.
4070: Auditing and Auditing Fees – currently under review by the Dean’s Council.
Old policy 6126: Credit by Examination – previously amended and approved by the
Academic Senate in 1998. The Academic Senate would like to keep policy as approved. The
faculty coordinator will work with Ms. Stewart and bring policy back to College Council.
7400: Travel – pulled from Board Agenda by Mr. Beverly who was looking for a more broad
statement. Dr. Caldwell will revise this policy.
Informational Campaign
If the bond is successful the College Council will go into planning mode in conjunction with the
Planning and Budgeting Committee.
