Minutes of the College Council Meeting of December 9, 2002
Present: Ms. Caldwell, Dr. Caldwell, Ms. Ely, Dr. Fallo, Mr. Hanson, Dr. Hata, Ms.
Pickens, Dr. Simon, Ms. Smith, and Ms. Stewart.
Budget
The state is proposing $215M cuts to community colleges. Salary increases were
approved for January 1, 2003. The state budget deficit may affect our COLA and Growth
for next year.
The High School Sport’s Program may be cut. Other programs that may be cut are: 1)
Life Guard, 2) HAZMAT, and 3) Firefighter In-Service.
The Vice President’s have made the following recommendations:
1. No faculty hires
2. $827,500 cut from PFE – list will follow
3. Transfer funding from PFE
4. Research Director- will not hire
5. Bookstore/Merchandise Buyer- will hire
6. ITS Assistant Director – will not hire
7. Reviewing whether or not to continue those in acting, working out of class, and
temporary project administrators (reviewing on an individual basis)
8. No hiring from temporary agencies. Temporary classified employees only until
March 30, 2003.
9. Continue to review PFE
The Vice President’s will be meeting on Tuesday and Friday and may have their
recommendation list for College Council to review on December 16th.
