4) City of Torrance finalized their Core Customer Service Academy training as well as their
Development Dimensions International (DDI) training. They will resume next year.
Other Activity:
5) New marketing pieces are being developed to promote our ETP and Contract Education programs.
Small Business Development Center – Laura Garinger:
1) The SBDC is busy trying to achieve the goals the Long Beach Lead Center set for the year. What
has hurt drastically is the clients that have been coded SBJA (Job Acts of 2010). These are SBDC
clients but they are coded SBJA because they are either in government contracting, restaurants,
technology, manufacturing, food packaging or import/export clients. Many of them have had
successful milestones, but they are not counted towards our SBA goals. There are goals set for
SBJA, but the focus for the SBA is the goals counted for our regular SBDC clients.
2) We do have capital infusion goals in the pipeline, but some may not be funded until after the first of
the year.
3) The El Camino SBDC will join the Los Angeles Regional SBDC Network for the year-end luncheon
on December 5th to recognize small business successes. We have a client chosen who has agreed
to attend. He owns several markets and has been funded recently with a $250,000 loan with the
help of our SBDC.
4) A lot of our year-end work workshops have been cancelled until after the first of the year.
Enrollment is typically slow during the holiday season.
Workplace Learning Resource Center – not in attendance:
Discussion
Economic Workforce Development (EWD) Changes: Movement to change how we do business is taking
place. We are part of a regional consortium.
Election Results/College Response: Proposition 30 passed. There will not be any cuts or impact this year.
Sections may be added next year. Measure E also passed, which includes $350 million for construction and
other improvements.
Adjournment at 2:30 pm
