3) A new QuickBooks Series will start on September 17th. We have 7 pre-paid attendees
signed up as of today. We are hoping to fill the class with 14 attendees. We have 13 other
workshops scheduled through September. We encourage our clients and prospective
clients to take as many workshops as possible in order to prepare them for their business
ventures.
o Workplace Learning Resource Center (WpLRC) – Maryann Cohan:
1) Terminal Island: Welding will be starting up on October 7th. This will be the final year
under the 5-year contract. We’re going to be bidding on the Parenting contract that went
out a few weeks ago. We had a Job Fair on August 28th and that was a success. We had
really good feedback. The inmates were very happy with the information that they
received in the classroom and the job fair.
2) Metropolitan Detention Center: We are currently doing a Parenting class. Denise
DiPasquale started a workshop on Blueprint for Success.
3) Lifeboat class scheduled for September 17th; Disney Cruise Lines personnel were here
yesterday and will be at the Lucky Duck Swim School pool today.
4) We still have no date for Advanced Fire. It is going to take two days of firefighting.
5) Vessel Security Officer: We have been getting a lot of calls about the class. As of January
1, 2014, the USCG (United States Coast Guard) wants the vessel crew to have Vessel
Security Officer training. Roberto is making changes to comply with Maritime
1
Transportation Security & Administration (MTSA). Until then, we are unable to hold
classes.
6) STCW (Standards for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) 3-day Refresher Course:
Curriculum is being prepared to submit to USCG for a new class. The STCW certification
expires after 5 years, however, if seafarers have enough sea time they can take the 3-day
Refresher Course.
7) The USCG has extended approval of our training through September 30th. The STCW
class scheduled for September 24-28th will have to have the fire rescheduled.
8) We are presently contacting several leads for firefighting equipment. We have received 15
SCBA air bottles, harnesses and masks so far.
Discussion
a) There is a new format for the Contract/PSA that we enter into with our vendors and company
training. Hye has provided a draft. They have now added a letter G which is Indemnifications.
b) Tomorrow, the Student and Community Advancement Fall Staff Meeting will take place in the
Alondra Room from 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
