1) Kid’s College 2012: Thanks to Dr. Arce’s office, room for Kid’s College classrooms was confirmed a week before the classes started. Strong positive feedback from Kid’s college parents as we move into the second session on Monday, July 11, 2012. Gross revenues generated from Kid’s
College class fees are on par with last year’s generated revenues – the program continues to be valuable and necessary for meeting the needs of community parents with kids grades 1-12.
2) Fall 2012 Catalog: Courses such as Personal Fitness Trainer, Nutrition Technician, Medical
Coding and Billing, CPR/First Aid/BLS, and Computer Basics for Older Adults are being added/reexamined/revised. Delay with creation/production of catalog/instructor contracts due to pending revisions mandated by HR/Payroll regarding conversion of contractor instructors to ECC casual employee status and late assignment of Kid’s College classrooms.

3) Foster and Kinship Care Education (FKCE): In June we didn’t have a lot of classes. Received an augmentation to hold an AB112 workshop. We had 52 participants (30 youth and 22 adults) who requested follow-up workshops. This is to teach them about social services and community systems. Adults need training for youth and transitioning.
4) Model Approaches-Partnerships (PS MAPP) graduated twelve participants. o Small Business Development Center
– Laura Garinger:
1) Attended Mock Job Fair at Terminal Island Prison on June 27 th . It was a very rewarding experience to let the inmates know that when they are released they can become small business owners and be their own boss. They were told to research their business ideas and see who their competition is, and what to do to make them stand out over their competitors. Many inmates were interested in becoming business owners and several had their own businesses before entering prison.
2) Oh July 18 th the SBDC will be hosting a workshop held by Constant Contract with Kelly Flint teaching the workshop. It will be held at the Hermosa Beach Theatre in Hermosa Beach. Social
Media Made Simple always draws a large crowd.
3) Star Van Buren will be attending the annual ASBDC Conference in New Orleans September 11 th -
14 th . This is an annual mandatory event held every year at different locations for Small Business
Development Centers through the Unity States.
4) The SBDC is implementing a new workshop on How to Estimate Start-Up Costs. We have found through our Orientation workshops that many attendees do to not have the money to fund their start-up business, or have a clue as to how much they will need to get their business started. o Workplace Learning Resource Center – Maryann Cohan:
1) Terminal Island: Classes currently in progress: Blueprint Reading and AutoCad. Welding and
Parenting have finished and will start again October 1 st . Solar classes haven’t been offered. They are looking at Wheelchair Repair. Mock Job Fair held June 27 th was very successful.
2) Maritime Training Schedule: Lifeboat – July 17-21, and Tankerman – July 24 th – 28 th .
Discussion o BTC Year-End Update: Financially ended the year well. Changing all key pads and the alarm system codes into the building. o Bond Measure: A survey was done by the college to see if a construction bond would pass. The response came back positive. There will be a campaign like the one for the previous bond issue. o Division Picnic: Picnic will be in set in late August. Asking staff to bring side dishes and managers will provide main course.
