NZQA Expiring unit standard 5388 version 8 Page 1 of 3 Title Control a computerised colour measurement system Level 3 Purpose Credits 10 This unit standard is for people working in the dyeing and finishing industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of computerised colour measurement system operation; enter and maintain dyestuff calibration data; set up shade standards in the system database; and carry out system support activities. Classification Textiles Manufacture > Textile Dyeing and Finishing Available grade Achieved Entry information Critical health and safety prerequisites Recommended for entry: Unit 2780, Demonstrate and apply knowledge of a personal computer system, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or skills. Explanatory notes 1 Performance of the elements must comply with the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. 2 Definition Workplace procedures refer to the verbal or documented procedures for performing activities including health and safety, operational, environmental and quality management requirements. They refer to manuals, manufacturer's specification, codes of practice, or policy statements. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of computerised colour measurement system operation. Evidence requirements 1.1 Computerised colour measurement system is described in terms of the operating principles and measurement technique. Competenz SSB Code 101571 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA Expiring unit standard 1.2 5388 version 8 Page 2 of 3 Computerised colour measurement system data requirements are described in terms of their use by the system. Range dyestuff types, shade reflectance values, cost data, metamerism data, shade tolerances, substrate data, calibration data. Outcome 2 Enter and maintain dyestuff calibration data. Evidence requirements 2.1 Validity of calibration dyeings is confirmed before entry. Range substrate used for calibration dyeings is typical of that used in workplace, calibration dyeings carried out according to dye manufacturer’s recommendations, calibration dyeings carried out using methods typical of the workplace. 2.2 Calibration dyeing reflectance values are entered into system according to the system operating procedure. 2.3 Calibration group accuracy is verified according to the system operating procedure. Outcome 3 Set up shade standards in the system database. Evidence requirements 3.1 Standard shade samples are measured according to workplace procedures and the system operating procedure. 3.2 Standard sample reflectance values and tolerances are input to system according to workplace procedures and the system operating procedure. Outcome 4 Carry out system support activities. Evidence requirements 4.1 Data is backed up according to workplace procedures and system operating procedure. 4.2 System calibration and drift tests are carried out according to workplace procedures. 4.3 System is maintained according to workplace procedures. Please note Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR). The CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
