People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare a research proposal for approval; research the approved subject area and write the research report; and present the research project at a recognised industry meeting and in a recognised industry publication. entry information: Open. accreditation option: Evaluation of documentation and visit by NZQA and industry. moderation option: A centrally established and directed national moderation system has been set up by the Primary Industry Training Organisation. special notes: 1 Evidence submitted for assessment must include documented endorsement of the project from at least two sports turf industry groups or organisations which are relevant to the focus of the project. 2 The research project must be approved by an academic supervisor from a recognised tertiary training establishment or Crown Research Institute with recognised expertise in sports turf, and the Primary Industry Training Organisation. 3 The presentation must include a written report which is accurate, in a style and language which meets the client organisation’s needs, and which meets presentation standards generally accepted for a research documentation. Report layout will include summary, introduction, literature review, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions. Presentation requirements include – discussion and conclusions match original aims and objectives, project is submitted within the agreed time frame, professional appearance is adopted during presentation, verbal/visual presentation is given using clear, concise and appropriate dialogue, speech is audible and visual projection visible to all participants, questions are answered with confidence, presentation is kept within agreed time allocation. 5 Definitions Recognised industry meeting means a meeting of a regional or national sports or sport turf management organisation. Recognised industry publication includes but is not limited to the New Zealand Turf Management Journal. Elements and Performance Criteria element 1 Prepare a research proposal for approval. performance criteria 1.1 A written proposal for the research project is approved by an academic supervisor and the Primary Industry Training Organisation. Range: factors addressed in the proposal include but are not limited to – organisation endorsement, time-frame, resources (financial, time, labour, materials), subject complexity, practical benefit, aims and objectives, methodology. element 2 Research the approved subject area and write the research report. Range: evidence may include but is not limited to – research papers, published articles, books, personal communications. 2.3 Field investigation is conducted in accordance with procedures and requirements agreed by the learner and the academic supervisor. 2.4 Written report meets all criteria established for the research project. element 3 Present the research project at a recognised industry meeting and in a recognised industry publication. performance criteria 3.1 Presentation meets the requirements of the organisation supervising the research in terms of depth and coverage. 3.2 Summary of findings meets editorial requirements of the recognised industry publication. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
