People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe common surveying terms and measuring equipment; set out an area from a sports turf technical drawing; measure and calculate the area of a sports turf surface; and measure and calculate the slope and grade of a sports turf area or drain. Performance criteria 1.1 Common surveying terms are described in terms of their relevance to surveying. Range 1.2 scale, offset, contour, contour interval, orientation, benchmark, spot height, reduced level, invert level, triangulation, right angles, Global Positioning System (GPS). Types of sports turf surface measuring equipment are described in terms of their uses and applications. Range four of – measuring wheels, tapes, electronic distance meters, optical square, ranging rods, GPS and software applications. Element 2 Set out an area from a sports turf technical drawing. Performance criteria 2.1 Site is located in accordance with sports turf drawing specification. 2.2 Site pegs are set at height in accordance with sports turf drawing specification. Element 3 Measure and calculate the area of a sports turf surface. Performance criteria 3.1 Measuring equipment selected is appropriate for calculating the area of a sports turf surface. Range 3.2 two of – measuring wheels, tapes, electronic distance meters, optical square, ranging rods, GPS and software applications. Area is calculated by application of formulae to measurements. Performance criteria 4.1 Equipment selected is appropriate for measuring the slope and grade of a sports turf surface. Range 4.2 two of – laser level, dumpy-type level, builder’s level, staff, measuring wheels, tapes, electronic distance meters. Slope and grade of a sports turf area or drain are calculated by application of formulae to measurements. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
