Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to conduct
visual inspections of cylinders used in conjunction with selfcontained underwater breathing apparatus (scuba) to the
standards of the Department of Labour Occupational Safety
and Health - Explosives and Dangerous Goods Division.

Explanatory notes
1
This unit is a prerequisite to Unit 4407, Complete hydrostatic tests of scuba cylinders.

To industry criteria, in the case of cylinder inspections and testing, means to meet the
requirements of the New Zealand Underwater Association (NZUA) or Testing
Laboratory and Registration Council (TELARC).

All training providers offering any recreational scuba diving units must ensure that the
training is conducted by a qualified
instructor in current teaching status with one of

the listed agencies: National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI),
Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), Scuba Schools International
(SSI), Confederation Mondiale des Activities Subaquatique (CMAS) (or an equivalent
determined by the ITO); and the instructor be providing training in accordance with
the standards and procedures of the respective training agency.

reference documents, interior condition, cleaning, drying, recording results.
