NZQA Expiring unit standard Title Fill dive cylinders Level 4 4405 version 3 Page 1 of 3 Credits 1 Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to fill scuba diving cylinders to the standard set out in the Dangerous Goods (Class 2-Gases) Regulations 1980 and its amendments. Classification Diving > Diving - General Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 This unit standard is a prerequisite to Unit 4406, Conduct visual inspections of scuba cylinders. 2 Industry criteria refer to standards, procedures and codes of practice of authorised approval and registration authorities. 3 The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 must be adhered to. 4 All training providers offering any recreational scuba diving units must ensure that the training is conducted by a qualified instructor in current teaching status with one of the listed agencies: National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI), Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), Scuba Schools International (SSI), Confederation Mondiale des Activities Subaquatique (CMAS) (or an equivalent determined by the ITO); and the instructor be providing training in accordance with the standards and procedures of the respective training agency. Range compressor installation, air intake, drive unit, lubricants, filter materials, run-up procedures, guarding, isolation, over-pressure devices, safety to user and members of the public. Evidence requirements 1.1 The compressor is operated to Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. 1.2 Explanation of operation and maintenance meets manufacturer’s specifications. Outcome 2 Fill high pressure cylinder designed for use in self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (scuba). Evidence requirements 2.1 Handling and storage procedures for cylinders meet industry criteria. 2.2 Inspection of the cylinder for compliance is demonstrated to industry criteria. 2.3 Fill pressure is identified and control devices set accordingly. 2.4 The cylinder being filled is restrained to prevent toppling or spinning. 2.5 Valves are operated in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications. 2.6 Leak testing is performed to Dangerous Goods Regulations. 2.7 Documentation complies with Dangerous Goods Regulations requirements. Range logged record of compressor use (hour clock and/or number of fills), logged record of filter servicing periods and materials used.
