Explanatory notes 1 Performance must be demonstrated and assessed in accordance with organisational requirements. 2 Organisational requirements refers to instructions to staff on policy and procedures (including the application of legislation to work site situations) which are formally documented or generally accepted at the work site. Evidence requirements 1.1 The underlying principles and theory are explained in terms of the technology, and the chemical reactions and/or the processes that take place. 1.2 Maintenance procedures are described. 1.3 Calibration procedure is described. 1.4 Quality control checks are explained and the type and cause of typical errors are described. Range may include but is not limited to – blanks, repeatability, reproducibility. Outcome 2 Use an infrared instrument to carry out analysis. Evidence requirements 2.1 Instrument is set up. 2.2 Tests are conducted according to process and procedures identified in Element 1. 2.3 Any non-conforming results are actioned. 2.4 Instrument is used in a manner that causes no danger to persons, or damage to instrument or equipment. 2.5 Instrument is maintained. Outcome 3 Report infrared analysis results. Evidence requirements 3.1 Results from tests are accurately documented. 3.2 Results are reviewed and filed. Outcome 4 Troubleshoot abnormal test situations and results.
