Explanatory notes 1 Work must be carried out in accordance with organisational requirements, licensing requirements, legislative requirements, and industrial awards and agreements. This includes licences and safety training for equipment operations. 2 Work may be undertaken in various work areas including production, and inward and outward stores. 3 Bulk materials may be dry, solid or liquid. 4 Bulk handling equipment can include associated equipment such as pumps, conveyors, valves and pipes. 5 Legislative requirements in this unit standard include the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995, Animal Products Act 1999 and Animal Products (Dairy) Regulations 2005, relevant codes of practice, and subsequent amendments. 6 Organisational requirements refers to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – site specific requirements, and company quality management requirements. Evidence requirements 1.1 Storage destination of load is confirmed prior to unloading, in terms of capacity of storage destination and that destination meets cleaning and sanitation requirements. 1.2 Quality clearance for loading or unloading is confirmed in terms of the company quality management requirements. 1.3 Condition of intake equipment is confirmed and set up according to organisational requirements. Outcome 2 Unload or load bulk materials in the dairy industry. Evidence requirements 2.1 Bulk materials handling system is operated to meet loading or unloading requirements. Range requirements could include but are not limited to – operation of process control system, use of instrumentation to check capacity of destination location, sampling and testing materials. 2.2 Non-conformance when unloading or loading bulk materials is identified, rectified and/or reported according to organisational requirements. 2.3 Documentation is completed according to organisational requirements. Outcome 3 Demonstrate knowledge of loading and unloading bulk materials. Evidence requirements 3.1 Site layout and location of storage areas are identified in terms of task requirements. 3.2 Operating principles and capacity of bulk handling equipment are identified in terms of task requirements. 3.3 Hygiene requirements for loading and loading bulk materials are identified in terms of consequences of incorrect equipment use.
