Classification Dairy Manufacturing > Dairy Quality and Process Improvement Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Work must be carried out in accordance with organisational requirements, licensing requirements, legislative requirements, and industrial awards and agreements. 2 Quality standards are typically described in specifications such as raw materials, packaging and final product specifications. 3 Responsibility for monitoring quality must cover a work process or sub-system. 4 Definitions Control points refer to those key points in a work process which must be monitored and controlled. This includes – food safety (critical), quality and regulatory control points. Organisational requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – site specific requirements, company quality management requirements, supplier supplied material safety data sheets, codes of practice, manufacturer’s specifications. Quality management requirements include but are not limited to compliance with the ISO 9000:2005 series standards. Legislative and regulatory requirements applicable to this unit standard may include: Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, Animal Products Act 1999, Animal Products (Dairy) Regulations 2005, relevant Dairy Specifications/Notices. 5 Involvement in continuous improvement can include participation in structured improvement programs and day-to-day problem solving. 6 Monitoring quality includes observation and other checks or inspections to confirm that the work outputs meets specification or quality standard. This can include the use of data collection and analysis tools such as control charts. Evidence requirements 1.1 Work processes and control points are monitored in terms of maintaining quality of output and/or service. 1.2 Materials and equipment are inspected in accordance with workplace quality requirements. 1.3 Quality data is collected and analysed and any variations or common faults are identified in accordance with organisational requirements. 1.4 Non-conformance is identified and corrective action is taken in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements. 1.5 Inspection results are recorded in accordance with organisational requirements. Outcome 2 Contribute to continuous improvement in quality performance. Evidence requirements 2.1 Barriers to improved quality performance are identified. 2.2 Likely causes of poor performance are identified and investigated in accordance with organisational requirements. 2.3 Solutions for improving performance are identified and implemented or reported in accordance with organisational requirements. Outcome 3 Demonstrate knowledge of quality system requirements relating to own work area. Evidence requirements 3.1 Quality policy, procedures and responsibilities are identified in terms of their relationship to own work area. 3.2 Quality system procedures are identified in terms of their application to own work area.
