In the context of this unit standard, snowsport
equipment refers to either skis or snowboards, plus the
appropriate boots and bindings, clothing, accessories,
protective gear, and snow toys.

and requirements of the enterprises involved and any
relevant legislative and/or regulatory requirements

Hire out snowsport equipment.
performance criteria
1.1
Communication and customer service skills, are used during customer
interview, to gain information about the customer’s intended snowsport
activities, personal requirements, sizing, and experience according to company
policy.
Range:

Basic features of rental equipment are described to the customer and advice is
provided on basic usage.
Range:
1.3
communication and customer service skills – concise and
culturally sensitive language and body language, courteous,
friendly, helpful, handling of complaints, accuracy of transactions.
equipment must include – boots, skis or snowboards, poles,
toboggans;
equipment may include – snowtoys, clothing, accessories,
protective gear;
specific customer needs – adult, child, disabled;
features – boot fastenings, boot to binding, safety release devices.
Hire equipment meets and is adjusted to customer size and requirements.
Range:
customer size and requirements – DIN specifications, height,
weight, foot size, boot sole length, age, type of skier or
snowboarder, skier or snowboarder ability, snowboarder stance;
hire equipment may include – bindings, skis or snowboards, boots,
snow toys, poles, wristguards, clothing.

Hire agreements are completed on hiring out and return according to
management or company procedures.

The management’s rental policies and requirements, which must be adhered to,
are described and related to the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

Equipment is checked on its return for safety defects, cleanliness and damage,
and information communicated to repair technician or rental supervisor.

damage – delamination, deterioration, base damage, loose or
damaged componentry, leash, laces, screws, liner, buckle or cable
deterioration, anti-friction devices, sole wear, pole baskets, straps,
poles checked for straightness and wear.
removal of ice and snow, tightening or replacement of screws,
replacement of pole baskets and straps, cleaning, drying,
deodorising.
Equipment is stored according to company requirements and procedures.
