Math Comprehension Using Memory Enhancing Strategies to Enhance Multiplication Facts Strategy: Memory-Enhancing Strategies Appropriate Grade Level: 3rd grade and above Procedures/Steps: All multiplication facts fit into families, so the first step would be to teach a specific strategy for each family. Have posters made with each number families strategy on it so the student can master it. Every strategy that goes along with each number family also has a picture that goes along with it, so that they student can see the picture to figure out the answer, or read the steps written on the poster. Also once the students have mastered the strategies for each number family, make sure they know that when they come to a fact they don’t know, to go through each family and see what strategy works. Comments and/or tips: Student progress charts are a tool that can be used to motivate students to want to do better throughout the semester if they can monitor their own progress.
