POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Web Designer Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional Support H (TS) JOB SUMMARY: Contribute to all phases of the development and publication of materials of potential layouts for the website, student portal, and any web based applications. Conceptualizes, designs, and produces creative communication materials that achieve departmental and college goals including websites, publications, newsletters and training material. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 20% 1. Design and develop visual stunning concepts, layouts, for a variety of web and print communications. Create graphic images such as illustrations, logos, web, and newsletter layouts using a variety of mediums to achieve artistic or graphic effects. Create graphic sketches, designs, and copy layouts for online content. Arrange layout based upon available space, knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design concepts. 2. Collaborate with others on strategy and web content development. Provide creative solutions to supervisor and other departments for web applications and print. 20% 3. Provide standards in type specification, color quality, inspection of proofs to ensure high quality outcome within time and budget constraints. 15% 4. Provide assistance with IT Newsletter layout and design to meet production schedule as determined by the VP of IT/CIO. Assists and provides guidance with layout and graphics for technical training material, quick reference guides, flyers, brochures, TV studio design and graphics, etc. Provides quality control of the final product. 15% 5. Ensure that all web and printed graphic image sizes and resolution requirements are correct in order to obtain superior results. Exercise due diligence in testing code/design in all browsers before release to production. 15% 6. Engage in professional development as needed to stay current in communication design, graphic design, related computer hardware and software needs. Maintain awareness of emerging web, design, and social trends and techniques. 10% 7. Other duties as assigned. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Executive Director, Network Systems Effective: 03/09/12 Page 1 of 4 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Design, Media Advertising, Computer Information Systems or related field. EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years related experience. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design, concept development, layout composition, color theory, typography and publication production as well as marketing and branding strategies utilized in web media and in print. Superior comprehensive visual design skills and creativity. Knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design concepts. Demonstrated proficiency at a high level utilizing Adobe Creative Suite programs; Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Acrobat. Exceptional organizational and planning skills, including exacting attention to detail and follow-through. Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team, contributing to a positive productive environment. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer, imaging equipment, scanners, printers and a variety of equipment associated with a general office and client server environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software in addition to Adobe Creative Suite programs.
