POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Manager, Library Systems Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional J (Technology Support) JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the management, general oversight and operation of the online district wide library information system process. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provide leadership, advice, support and assistance to library staff and College administrators in all aspects of the library information system process, including, but not limited to evaluation, selection, planning and implementing library automation modules and packages. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 25% 2. Responsible for maintenance and enhancement of library system information processes, including system analysis, system interfaces of hardware and software security, testing, coordination with faculty, various community agencies. Local ISDs, vendors, consultants and others. 20% 3. Implement appropriate operating procedures regarding system maintenance, installation of upgrades, data integrity, maintenance of appropriate system parameters and passwords. 20% 4. Responsible for operational effectiveness and efficiency of the library system, including development, recommendation, implementation and communication of standards, internal processes and changes. Serve as liaison between the College libraries and library automation vendors and the college’s Information Technology Department. 15% 5. Participate in the development and maintenance of creative and stateof-the art internet-based avenues of delivering library services and resources to students. 10% 6. Responsible for the research, evaluation and purchase recommendations of package solutions for library problems. 5% 7. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years experience. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: In depth understanding of library practices and principles in areas of student services, faculty requirements and resource management; integrating library practices and conditions with the available technology tools. 2. Equipment Used: Personal computer and a variety of equipment associated with a library system environment i.e. servers, hubs and routers. 3. Software Used: A variety of word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software in addition to library automation software, remote content – vendor application software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Alternative or combined skills in understanding, counseling, and/or influencing people are important in achieving job objectives, causing action, understanding others, or changing behavior; and, skills of persuasiveness or assertiveness, as well as sensitivity to the point of view of others. WORKING CONDITIONS: Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
