POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: EXTENDED TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Manager, Student Financial Aid Special Programs and Scholarships Exempt CATEGORY: Professional GRADE: C Job Summary: Responsible for managing, planning, and the administration of a designated program. Additionally, the Manager is responsible for carrying out the goals and objectives of the Student Financial Aid department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 1. Assist with the planning, designing, and implementation of office operations, policies, procedures, and compliance activities for campus based state programs, federal loan programs, scholarships, and "Return of Title IV" within the Student Financial Aid department. Provide leadership, consultation, and assistance to staff, students, and external agencies regarding student financial aid services and related issues. 30% 2. Manage and oversee processes of specialized campus based programs (e.g. SGPD, TTAG, LEAP, and Texas Grants), the Federal Family Educational Loan Program, the Default Aversion program, and awarding of scholarships. Monitor program changes and provide recommendations for improvement for processes based on new rules, regulations, and laws; ensure staff is informed of all new rules, regulations, procedures, and program changes. 30% 3. Provide personnel management direction and guidance to staff, including orientation, performance appraisal, coaching, and professional development. Participate in the hiring, training, evaluation, and termination of staff. 20% 4. Interact with staff, faculty, students, and community organizations for the development of quality programs. Serve as liaison to the Athletic department to award athletic scholarships. 10% 5. Participate in financial aid outreach activities. 5% 6. Revised: 4/21/08 Page 1 of 2 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent EXPERIENCE: Five (5) Years SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of financial aid and ability to research complex federal and state regulatory guidance as well as college policies and procedures. Leadership and team building skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with students, parents, faculty, administrative staff and top level executives. 2. Equipment Used: Personal computer and related peripherals as well as other equipment associated with a general office environment. 3. Software Used: Integrated administrative software, (e.g. Banner), and a variety of a word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Duties require little physical effort in working with light (up to 10lbs.) easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, and other faculties. Duties require frequent travel between campuses and locations. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS Alternative or combined experience in understanding, negotiating, selecting, developing and motivating people are important due to constant interaction with people with the district and community, as well as the positions accountability for the development motivation, assessment and reward of employees. WORKING CONDITIONS Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
