JOB SUMMARY: Responsibilities involve the coordination and supervision of the various
functions and aspects of the GEAR UP program as well as the monitoring of program staff and
operational procedures.

1. Assist the Program Manger by providing direct supervision, support, coaching,
performance evaluations, direction of the day-to-day operation, and professional
development to assigned personnel of the GEAR UP program. The GEAR UP
Coordinator is responsible for serving as a mentor, resource and liaison to students and
teachers in order to follow, track, and continue the successful implementation of the
program.

2. GEAR UP Coordinator will provide technical assistance, training and support in
program design, development, and implementation of pre-collegiate services.

3. Assist the Program Manager with communication, coordination and collaboration
of program objectives to successfully meet program goals and foster relationships
with project partners. Assist Program Manager in the development and
implementation of the summer component.

4. Assist the Project Manager with overseeing grant funding and handling of finances,
Identify strategic gap and assesses short term and long term strategic planning.

5. GEAR UP Coordinator will ensure that grant guidelines and requirements are followed
and implement project programs in a timely manner.

6. GEAR UP Coordinator will work closely with the Program Manager, Research Associate,
and the Program Guidance Assistant (PGA’s); retrieve and compile data; prepare and
submit reports and/or communications; Preparation of the U.S. Department of Education’s
annual report(s); collecting program data to support local and federal reporting requirements;
surveying program participants and other relevant populations; provide narrative reports of
program, services and activities.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1.
Skills/Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong ability of
consensus building, negotiation, and persuasion.
2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with an office
environment that utilizes technology for communication, training, professional development
and student service support.
3. Software Used: A variety of spreadsheet, word-processing, database, e-mail, and
presentation software. MS Office Suite, SCT Banner, proficiency with internet applications,
College-Ed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials.
Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of
standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Alternative or combined skills in understanding, negotiating, selecting, developing, and
motivating people are important to the highest degree due to constant interaction with other
people, at any level within the organization or the community, position’s accountability for the
development, motivation, assessment, and reward of employees, and to deal with irrational
situations where the outcome is unpredictable.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as
noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
