MIRACOSTA COLLEGE CLASS TITLE: GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) SCHOOL SITE COORDINATOR BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the GEAR UP Director, perform a variety of coordination duties in support of the GEAR UP Grant. The School Site Coordinator will work at one of the two high schools, with responsibility for working with two cohorts of GEAR UP students in the Oceanside Unified School District. Assist in the organization, planning, and implementation of GEAR UP goals, objectives, and activities. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of GEAR UP Grant activities, programs, events and services (known as “APES”). (E) 2. Collaborate with the GEAR UP team, school site administrators, staff at the school site and GEAR UP students and parents. (E) 3. Meet regularly with other members of the GEAR UP leadership team. 4. Train and provide work direction to the site GEAR UP support staff and other hourly workers as assigned. (E) 5. Assist with marketing/recruitment of GEAR UP APES and accompany students and parents on field trips to colleges, universities and cultural enrichment programs. 6. Coordinate data entry activities to ensure accurate GEAR UP reporting. 7. Maintain and update a GEAR UP page on cohort school’s website. 8. Assist in the preparation of statistical records and reports. 9. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: District organization, operations, policies and objectives of both Oceanside Unified School District and MiraCosta Community College District. Requirements, guidelines, rules and objectives of federal grant programs. Methods and practices of recordkeeping and report preparation. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Oral and written communication skills including correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. ABILITY TO: Assist with planning, organizing and implementing programs and activities for GEAR UP students and parents. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent to an Associate’s degree and two years of closely related experience in a school/educational environment. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Driver’s License. Must meet all requirements for California public school employees. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Primarily sedentary with intermittent standing, walking, bending or stooping; occasional light lifting and carrying of objects weighing 25 pounds or less; ability to work at computer, including repetitive use of computer keyboard, mouse or other control devices; ability to travel and/or drive to a variety of locations on and off campus as needed to conduct district business. WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily works in an indoor office/classroom environment; subject to frequent interruptions in in person or by telephone; intermittent exposure to individuals acting in a disagreeable fashion. May work at any district location or authorized facility during day and/or evening hours with occasional evenings and/or weekends on an as-needed basis. Occasional local travel may be requested.
