POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Network Academy Lab Assistant Non-exempt CATEGORY: Classified GRADE: E JOB SUMMARY: Position is responsible for providing direct tutorial, training, and/or instructional lab support to students in the lab when an instructor is generally not present. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provide support to faculty through instructional assistance in the lab and classroom; participate in the preparation of instructional materials for lectures and/or labs; assist students with class and/or laboratory assignments by providing technical assistance in hardware maintenance/usage and software/peripheral installation/usage. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 50% 2. Perform routine PC diagnostics and utility checks before each lab; maintain hardware components and accessories, replace as needed. Assist with setup at the beginning of each day; trouble shoot as needed. Reset all PCs and equipment after each class to restore PCs to original state; ensure supplies are available for labs, returned upon completion and secured. 35% 3. Develop and maintain an inventory system for instructional materials and equipment, including computer hardware and software. 10% 4. Familiarize students with lab and classroom areas; explain lab procedures and policies for PC and equipment usage; provide feedback as needed. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s or equivalent EXPERIENCE: Three (3) Years CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES: SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Skills/Abilities: Strong interpersonal and writing skills in addition to the ability to operate and maintain assigned equipment. Equipment Used: Desktops, Laptops, Servers, routers, Switches, Hubs, Projectors Software Used: Windows 95, 98, 98E, 98se, ME, 2000 Professional, 2000 Server, 2000 Advanced Server XP Professional, a variety of work-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail an internet software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little to moderate physical effort in working with light (up to 30lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed may cause light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, or repetitive motion. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: This position requires the ability to communicate with coworkers, supervisors, and other members of the organization to request and transmit information.
