POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Manager, Instructional Media Services Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional D JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the supervision of the overall operation of the multi-campus Instructional Media Services Department. Ensuring that the audio/visual needs of the college District are met. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 25% 1. Develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate Instructional Media Services operations district wide. 2. Provide leadership and personnel management direction and guidance to staff members, including orientation, performance appraisal, coaching, personal and professional development. 15% 3. Develop/implement and monitor the IMS budget dist4rict wide. 15% 4. Negotiate with vendors regarding the District’s technical requirements and purchase equipment and supplies necessary for the department’s daily operations. 10% 5. Provide recommendations on media technology installation and equipment for new classrooms/labs and existing rooms. 10% 6. Consult with faculty regarding proper use of mediated material and equipment. 10% 7. Develop work schedules for all district wide IMS offices and off campus locations. 5% 8. Troubleshoot technical problems with equipment and operational/software issues and evaluate if equipment/software is repairable or recommend replacement. 5% 9. Recommend equipment and services needed for instructional use to faculty and administration. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Director, Center for Instructional Telecommunications SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct supervision as a first-line supervisor to staff assigned. Effective: 9/1/03 Page 1 of 2 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree. EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years experience. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, strong interpersonal skills, ability to effectively communicate with people, ability to maintain consistencies in actions and practices and highly developed management skills required of the position (organizational, supervisory, etc.) 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with an office environment. Audio/visual equipment to include, highly sensitive translation equipment, highly technical sound equipment, multi-media equipment, and film and video projection equipment. 3. Software Used: A variety of spreadsheet, word-processing, database, e-mail, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Alternative or combined skills in understanding, counseling, and/or influencing people are important in achieving job objectives, causing action, understanding others, or changing behavior; and, skills of persuasiveness or assertiveness, as well as sensitivity to the point of view of others. WORKING CONDITIONS: Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
