POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Technical Coordinator, Distance Education Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional H (TS) JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for planning, administration and operation of the technology which supports distance education program delivery under the supervision of the Director, Distance Education. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 20% 1. Provides technical support for each distance education delivery technology; Instructional Video, IP Video Conferencing, and Internet delivered courses. Supervise the technical support staff and is the primary distance education technical support contact. 2. Maintain distance education delivery equipment and systems. Monitor and manage online class creation processes. Document problems, implement solutions, manage permissions and accounts for distance education course management system users. 20% 3. Monitor the technical performance of distance education courses. Identify and submit verbal and written recommendations to improve and expand Distance Education programs. Design and produce reports to track progress, assist management and end-users. Develop and implement an evaluation system to ensure continuous quality improvement related to distance education technology. 15% 4. Conduct system, server, PC and equipment upgrades; provide technology analysis to develop and support distance education course delivery at remote locations; explore and recommend additional distance education media for inclusion in distance education programs. Lead the development, evaluation, and implementation of new technologies and other forms of instructional media appropriate to distance education. 10% 5. Interviews students, faculty and staff to determine training needs and work with EPCC departments and supporting vendors to address those needs. Prepare training to address specific or specialized needs not addressed by existing training activities. Conduct technology training for the distance education staff to enable the staff to provide student and faculty support. 10% 6. Manage software and equipment service contracts. Prepare and maintain documentation of distance education technical procedures. Is “on-call” for distance education events scheduled at the College. 5% Revised 11/3/05 Page 1 of 6 7. As the Distance Education Webmaster, maintain and update the Distance Education website. Develop instructional tutorials, materials, presentations; create support materials. 5% 8. Participate in the identification and acquisition of funding sources for distance education projects, to include direct assistance in grant writing, preparation and management. 5% 9. Maintain currency with developments and changes in distance education technologies and new media technologies, and current distance education trends. 5% 10. Serves on committees to advise on, assist in awareness of, and provide access to distance education courses and programs. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Director, Distance Education SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide work direction to assigned staff. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years experience SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of current and emerging trends in distance education technology, techniques, issues and distance education approaches. Knowledge of adult education, distance learning technologies and instructional design and course development process. Demonstrated knowledge of Internet use and operation related to the delivery of distance education instruction. Knowledge of Internet based Course Management Systems. Experience with web site development and editing. Demonstrated knowledge of local area networks, operation, security, server administration, problem solving. Expert knowledge of operational requirements and technology used in IP videoconferencing, and the transmission of audio, video, and data in IP networks. Ability to assess training needs and training materials; curriculum and develop instructional material. Demonstrated ability to provide classroom instruction; research World Wide Web resources and provide technical guidance and support to distance education users. Demonstrated experience with PC and a variety of equipment associated with distance education. Demonstrated experience with a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software. Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to present complex information, both written and verbal, in a format and at a level tailored to the intended audience to small and large groups. Expert knowledge of MS Office on the PC platform and the ability to produce professional-quality documents, presentations and spreadsheets using Microsoft Office programs. Ability to documentation processes, procedures. Ability to record, compiles, and organizes information for reports. Knowledge of budgeting cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures. 2. Software Used: A variety of word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software in addition to technology used in IP videoconferencing, and the transmission of audio, video, and data in IP networks.
