POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Director, Continuing Education Law Enforcement Training Academy Exempt CATEGORY: Administrative GRADE: C JOB SUMMARY: Plan, direct, develop, implement and evaluate non-credit programs and services for the Division of Continuing Education for Security Training and Law Enforcement Programs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 30% 1. Identify needs of community; plan, develop, implement, manage and evaluate continuing education, training and service offerings to the community; provide direction to faculty, staff and students; mediate faculty, staff or student conflicts. 2. Establish and maintain relationships with business, community and educational institutions; local, state and federal agencies; participate in professional and community activities at the local, state and national levels. Establish and maintain relationships with academic deans to provide alternative course offerings to the community. 20% 3. Develop, recommend and implement short and long range strategic operational and instructional plans and related policies/procedures; ensure compliance with sponsoring agencies, federal and state standards; implement approved programs and recommend modifications or changes. 15% 4. Develop and manage class schedules and activities; hire faculty, assign classrooms, review and order textbooks, order instructional supplies and equipment. Promote and market course offerings. 15% 5. Develop budget recommendation; manage approved budget; monitor equipment/inventories for multiple programs. 5% 6. Maintain records and statistics to comply with state licensing and/or certification requirements. 5% 7. Provide personnel management, direction and guidance to staff and faculty including performance appraisal, coaching, personal and professional development. 5% 8. BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES: Departmental budget. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Master’s degree in a related field. EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years directly related experience. SPECIAL CONDITIONS: The Director must meet the Coordinator qualifications as established by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education for the Law Enforcement Academy and meet the Manager qualifications as established by the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau for the Security Officer Training Programs. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Strong leadership skills; ability to analyze a broad range of complex problems with considerable reasoning and judgment in the planning, coordination and implementation of work-related issues; good interpersonal and communication skills. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with a general office environment (copier, phone, fax, etc.) 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software.
