Norwegian Level 1
Prerequisite for entry
For complete beginners or those who have had only very little contact with the language.
Term duration
10 x 2-hour classes.
Aims and Objectives
The aim of the course is to enable students to function at a basic everyday survival level
(basic vocabulary, grammar and phonetics). Students should be able to communicate in
and understand Norwegian on a number of practical everyday matters.
Functions

Greetings, common expressions in social situations.
Talking about yourself
Ordering food and drink
Naming and using everyday objects
Knowing the system for telling time
Knowledge of days and months of the year.
Basic numbers and conventions for dates
Spatial description, and descriptions of position
Familiarity with basic question and answer routines
Description of clothes and customary dress codes

Travelling incl. time and place descriptions.
Arranging meetings

Linguistic Structures/ Phonetics

The elementary grammatical functions, pronunciation and stress patterns
