UCL CENTRE FOR LANGUAGES & INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION Evening Courses Norwegian Level 2+ Prerequisite for entry Successful completion of Norwegian syllabus 1 and syllabus 2 (part1) at UCL Language Centre or equivalent. Term duration 10 x 2-hour classes. Aims and Objectives The aim of the course is to enable students with a good knowledge of basic Norwegian to reach an intermediate level and to understand Norwegian registers used in many practical everyday situations. Bring about an overall appreciation of Norwegian life and society, through media and social institutions. Functions - Expressing plans and ideas Expressing opinions and interests Giving and taking instructions. Discussing current basic social issues Different ways of relating past, present and future Course Content: Main topics/themes to be covered - Awareness of cultural codes and habits Traditions in food, shopping and consumption of goods. Weights and measures Norwegian institutions of information and social structure Listening skills Linguistic Structures/ Phonetics - Development of syntax, automation of basic “thinking structures”, pronunciation and rhythm. Grammar - Revision of adjectives, adverbs and articles Relative pronouns Prepositions and prepositional phrases Ways of expressing future UCL Language Centre Evening Courses 1 - Imperative use Noun phrases and the construction of the definite adjective use.
