Health Syllabus Mr. Azcona Required Text: Prentice Hall: Health This course will cover a variety of topics aimed at creating a balanced approach to health and well being. The topics/units to be covered: Making Healthy Decisions, Nutrition, Alcohol Addiction, Tobacco, Substance Abuse, Family Life (Sex Education), and Personality development/Self Esteem. Grading Grades will be determined based on three main components: Assignments/ Presentations 40%, and Tests/Quizzes 60%. Assignments 1) All assignments must be kept in your notebook. Assignments will be graded as a collection. SAVE ALL OF YOUR WORK!! YOUR GRADE DEPENDS ON IT!! 2) Random unannounced assignments checks will occur during the course of the semester. Presentation: An investigative, internet based presentation addressing current health issues. Tests Tests will follow completion of each unit. The tests are comprised of multiple choice questions, True False, and Modified True False. Quizzes will randomly occur. Classroom Policies 1) Respect for self and others is mandatory at all times during the course. 2) Text, reading and note taking guide, and class work are required for every class. 3) Eating and drinking is not allowed. H20 is ok. 4) No cell phones, i Pods, video games, or hoods allowed in class. Cell phones and iPods will be confiscated and turned in to the office. 5) Raise your hand to speak. 6) Remain seated in your assigned seat until bell rings. 7) Participation points (100) 8) Bathroom Policy- You must have your Student Planner to use the restroom. A maximum of 2 restroom passes per student per semester. Having to leave the classroom for any reason counts as a restroom pass. Tardy Policy Strict adherence to the tardy policy will be followed. 1st offense is a warning. 2nd and 3rd offenses are detentions with a call home to parents. 4th and 5th offense is a referral to counselors. 6th and 7th offense is brought to the attention of the Vice Principal, and the student will be dropped from the class with a grade of F.
