Algebra 1 AB Mrs. Crowe katherinecrowe@anderson5.net Course Description: Algebra I AB is for students who completed Pre-Algebra with lower than an overall “80” average. This course covers the basic algebraic principles and their applications. This foundation is critical to success in all subsequent math courses. To be eligible to participate in Geometry CP, you must attain a final average of “85” or better. Plan to work from bell to bell. Behavior that prevents me from teaching and prevents others from learning will NOT be tolerated. Respect yourself and others. Personal issues and concerns will be handled privately and confidentially. Grading Percentages: Unit Tests 40% MAKE UP WORK Given at the end of each unit. Quizzes 20% Announced and unannounced. Homework 10% Checked for completion and effort. Labs 10% ALEKS or USA Test Prep assignments. Exam Tests and quizzes are the ONLY assignments accepted late. It is YOUR responsibility to set up a time with me to complete the assignment. If you do not make up the work by the end of the nine weeks, it will count as a zero. You may not turn in late Homework or Classwork. 10% Every nine weeks and cumulative. Classwork LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! 10% State issued exam—20% of final grade Checked for accuracy. NEED HELP OR TUTORING? Power Hour is an excellent program provided on Mondays and Thursdays (3:50pm-4:50pm) where you can receive help in all core subjects and Spanish. Power Hour also allows students time to make up missed tests and quizzes. Bus transportation is provided. Students must sign-up each day for transportation. Classroom Procedures: Entering the room: Immediately turn in your homework, find your seat, and begin working on the daily assignment displayed on the front board or in Google Forms. Turning in Homework: All HOMEWORK should be placed in “HOMEWORK” basket located at the front of the room at the beginning of class each day. I will check homework while you are working on the daily assignment. Sharpening pencils and throwing away trash: You may sharpen your pencils or throw away trash during class without asking as long as you do it quietly and without disturbing others. Only one person may be at the pencil sharpener or trash can at a time. Turning in other assignments (classwork, quizzes, tests, etc.): All assignments, except the daily assignment, should be placed in “Turn-it-in Box” located at the back of the room upon completion unless you are told otherwise. Daily assignments should be placed back into the folder at the front of the room. When you don’t have your homework: You will be assigned lunch detention each day that you do not have your completed homework assignment. The lunch detention must be served by the following day after it is assigned or you will be referred to Mrs. Anthony. When you don’t have your ID: If you come to class without an ID, you will be sent to the office to get one and will be counted tardy. When you are tardy: If you are tardy to class, you must have a pass from the front office or another teacher. No student will be allowed in class without a pass! (This is a school policy.) Going to the Restroom: You must ask permission and must sign out using the “Hall Pass” by the door. Refrain from asking during instruction. Be quiet in the hallway. Going to the Office, Nurse, Guidance Office, or Another Teacher: You must ask permission and use the “Hall Pass” by the door. When you return, your pass must be signed by the person you went to see. Exiting the room (during class): You must sign out on the “Hall Pass” sheet beside the door. Exiting the room (at the end of class): I will tell you when you may pack up your materials and dismiss you from class. Never line up at the door. Behavior Consequences: 1st Offense – Verbal Warning 2nd Offense – Conference with student/Parent Contact 3rd Offense – Office Referral/Parent Contact *I reserve the right to write an Office Referral for any offense I deem necessary. Academic Integrity A TLH diploma is highly esteemed and rigorous. Cheating of any form will not be tolerated in my classroom. If I suspect cheating, then a grade of zero will be recorded or the earned grade will be shared. A parent-teacher conference will be immediately requested. Additional Information: Progress Reports: You will receive a school progress report for all your classes half way through each nine weeks. In addition, I will give you a detailed progress report for this class after each test. It is for your information as well as your parents. Use these progress reports as well as PowerSchool to stay up-to-date and aware of your grade in this class. Monthly Calendars: You will be provided access to a Google calendar for this class listing our daily topics, notes, homework assignments, quiz dates, and test dates. Please know that these are subject to change. I will announce any and all changes in class.
