Cameron adds Information Technology
program
Career opportunities in information technology are continually expanding. In an effort to meet the demand
for highly skilled workers in the field of information technology, Cameron University will offer a Bachelor of
Science in Information Technology beginning in the Fall 2007 semester.
The University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University Board of Regents approved
the addition of the new program during its regular meeting held today at the Robert M. Bird Library at the OU
Health Sciences Center. The program is designed to prepare students for professions in information
technology including options in computer information systems, management information systems and
information assurance and security.
“Graduates will be well-prepared for a career in an industry that is characterized by rapid growth and
innovation,” said John McArthur Ph.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Cameron students who
graduate with a degree in Information Technology will be highly qualified in a job market that has much
potential for growth.”
The B.S. in Information Technology will replace the current program in Computer Information Systems
offered through the School of Science and Technology and the Management Information Systems option in
the Bachelor of Business Administration program. The addition of the third option in information assurance

and security is designed to address employment needs in the region and state.
“Student and employment demand has been documented by industrial advisory groups, student surveys,
industry and market trends and career opportunities at the local, regional, state and national levels,” said
McArthur. “These students will be ready to fill the industry demand for the highly skilled jobs available in
information technology.”
The development of this program was supported by funds from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher
Education Brain Gain Programs of Excellence project.
