For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Jan. 24, 2007 Cameron University offers adult degree completion program According to a recent study, more than 69,000 Oklahomans once attended college but never completed a bachelor’s degree. In an effort to assist those students in reaching their goals of obtaining a college degree, Cameron University is launching a new degree completion program in March that will cater to the needs of working adults. Cameron’s program is part of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education statewide initiative to offer an adult baccalaureate completion program. “Cameron University continues to be a leader in serving non-traditional, adult and military students,” said John McArthur Ph.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs. “This degree program is flexible, affordable, and allows students to earn a quality bachelor’s degree while maintaining an already busy lifestyle.” Pending State Regents approval, this new program will enable students to complete a common core curriculum of 27 to 30 credit hours consisting of skills and theory regarding organizational behavior, ethics, interpersonal skills, management, finance and communication skills. In addition to the core classes, students will also complete 12 to 15 credit hours of institution specific course work. Cameron is offering an institution specific area of focus in communication. Students will have the opportunity to enroll in the program five times throughout the year. Courses are offered in flexible eight- week schedules with convenient evening class times and online courses. Students -more- Adult degree, ADD ONE are placed into classes with their peers so they can share experiences with other working adults. To be eligible for the program students must: be at least 21 years of age, have not attended a university as a full-time student within the past year, have completed 72 or more college credit hours, have a minimum of 2.0 grade point average in past college course work, and meet remediation and general education requirements as determined by the University. “One of the unique components of this program is the fact that it builds so effectively on students’ previous college coursework,” said McArthur. “In some cases, students may even be eligible to receive college credit for work and life experiences.” Students who successfully complete the program will earn a Bachelor of Science in organizational leadership from Cameron University. This degree prepares students for success in government, nonprofit, corporate or industrial careers. State business and education leaders created the degree program so working Oklahomans can advance their careers, increase their incomes and build Oklahoma’s economy.
