For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Oct. 10, 2005 Cameron welcomes area high school students to annual open house at Sciences Complex Cameron University’s Department of Physical Sciences and Department of Biological Sciences will host the Sciences Complex Open House from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Sciences Complex, located north of the Shepler Towers on CU’s main campus in Lawton. The Sciences Complex Open House is designed to give high school students – particularly high school juniors and seniors – the opportunity to learn more about the various careers rooted in the science disciplines, as well as visit with current Cameron students about campus life and club activities. Members of the American Chemical Society Student Affiliates, Beta Beta Beta (the biological sciences honor society), the Students of Physics Society, and the CU Environmental Club, along with other science students, will be on hand at information booths to answer all questions potential students might have. “The open house is a wonderful opportunity for high school students to come and learn more about Cameron University and the departments of physical sciences and biological sciences,” said Kurtis Koll, Ph.D., professor. “It will be an interactive and entertaining evening for all.” A hamburger fiesta will kick the open house off at 5:30 p.m. in the courtyard north of the Sciences Complex. The open house sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m. with students selecting from four of the available five sessions, each lasting about 30 minutes. (over) Open House, ADD ONE The sessions include opportunities for students to learn about professions such as forensic chemistry, medicine, molecular biology, DNA analysis, game management, industrial technician, research physicist, secondary education teacher, as well as many others. High school students must register in advance of the event, either with their high school science teacher of by calling Cameron University at 580.581.2246.
