Dec. 6, 2013 Miller Slam-Dunks Fermilab Physics Slam COD Speech Associate Professor and Emcee of the second annual Physics Slam at Fermilab Chris Miller (right) ponders a question from one of the 800 audience members at the sold-out event. Breuder quizzes a nursing student about a “patient’s” symptoms and treatment steps during a recent visit to the College’s Hospital Simulation Lab, located in the Health and Science Center. Dr. Breuder role-played both a doctor and nursing student, learning about the complicated steps in assessing one of the four high-fidelity manikins in the four replicated hospital rooms that recreate emergency and routine situations for students in the program. Heard it thru the Grapevine… Culinary Arts Student Marija Benson was selected as a finalist in the sixth annual America’s Best Raisin Bread competition hosted by the California Raisin Marketing Board (CRMB). This prestigious baking industry competition recognizes professional and upand-coming bakers from across the country. Thirty-six finalists received a complimentary trip to the International Baking Industry Exposition in Las Vegas, Nev. “I was a bit nervous, but I learned a lot, and I met a lot of talented people,” Benson said. “Overall, it was a fabulous experience. It’s a great feeling to know that your products are enjoyed by other people.” Read More New Computer Forensics Certification this Spring COD will offer two computer forensic courses this spring that will prepare students to sit for the AccessData Certification Exam. “Once certified, students can work for organizations such as criminal justice departments, law firms and the court system extracting information that can be used as evidence in an investigation,” said Sam Shamsuddin, Assistant Professor of Computer and Internetworking Technologies, who will teach both courses. Breuder, Board Chairman Erin Birt and Paula Gleason (right) from the West Suburban Community Pantry for earning the “People’s Choice Award for Top Chefs” at the WSCP’s “Continental Challenge” fundraiser. Competitors from the Marriott Chicago Naperville, Seven Bridges Golf Club, the Westin and Rosebud restaurant prepared French cuisine that was voted on by guests.
