Monday
We greeted our classmates and did calendar.
We learned how to do our ABC chart (saying
the letter, the sound and the word that begins
with it). We did ‘Action Alphabet’. We
subitized 1-5. We chorally read our new poem,
‘School Bus’. We did shared reading and read
Let’s Learn All We Can. We learned the proper
way to hold our pencils when we write. We
read Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen.
We learned about internet safety through a
slideshow. We had recess. We brought home
our first two books for our book box. We
explored a math manipulative at the first of
four stations (tiles, bears, pattern blocks and
milk lids).
Tuesday
Today we greeted each other and did calendar.
We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We
read Don’t Eat the Teacher! We counted to 100 by
ones. We learned about labeling and drew a
picture of ourselves and added a few labels to it.
We read two similar books, one fiction and one
non-fiction, Let’s Be Friends and Friends Go
Together. We discussed the differences and how
to tell when a book is fiction/non. We read How to
Lose All Our Friends. Our clothes pin graph
question was ‘did you make a new friend last
week?’ We had recess. We read Pete the Cat
and His Four Groovy Buttons. We explored
another math manipulative at the second of four
stations.
Wednesday
We greeted new friends and did calendar.
We did our ABC chart and ‘Action
Alphabet’. We counted to 100 by 5’s and
10’s and learned about tally marks. We
read Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the
Bed. We learned about bus safety on the
school bus. We did shared reading. We
reconstructed our poem of the week. We
read Pete the Cat – Rocking My School
Shoes. We had recess. We explored a math
manipulative at the third of four math
stations.
Thursday
We greeted one another and did
calendar. We did our ABC chart and
‘Action Alphabet’. We read and
learned the Pledge of Allegiance. We
also used shared writing to make our
own class pledge. We learned the
correct way to use scissors and
practiced cutting. We read and
illustrated our poem of the week. We
had recess. We read Amelia Bedelia’s
First Field Trip. We explored our final
station in math.
Friday
We greeted each another and walked to the Northwest Library for a
tour and storytime. We had recess and read Manner’s Please and
Marvin’s Manners. We determined which was fiction and which was
non-fiction. We watched a very brief video about sharing.

MONDAY:
Thank to all who attended Curriculum Night! If you were unable to attend,
your child brought home all of the materials on Tuesday. Let me know if you
have any questions. Please turn in the signed, yellow ‘Highlights’ sheet and
mark either yes or no. The class earns points for any response, even ‘no’. If
you did not sign up for a parent-teacher conference Monday night, please
contact me to do so. I have times available on all three nights, October 21st,
28th or November 5th. October 21st is kindergarten only so if you have another
child in the building you may want to choose one of the other days.
We practiced cutting this week and we will be cutting almost daily for the
next two months. If I notice children having difficulty with scissors I will send
home some extra cutting practice to help them ‘sharpen’ their skills.
