Chapter Meeting Minutes 2/11/15
Call to Order
 Gathering called at 9:01 PM
o Betsy is absent.

Guest Speakers/Fund Requests
 Coate Hall-Brushes and Bottles: ceiling of $200.00
o All Glazed up with be instructing students to do canvas painting
o Benefits
 Popular activity
 Financially viable for students
 Interaction and collaboration with community business

o Friday, February 20th 5pm and 8pm
o Eagle Classrooms and Eagle Basement
o Maximum of 120 can attend.
o NRHH will be covering 11% of the program
 Program cost is $1900
o Unused funds will be returned based on percentage contributed.
o NRHH would be on all publicity.
o Will write an OTM for the program!
o Questions
 How long will it take?
 About 2 hours to paint start to finish.
 How many students could it reach?
 120
 If you have more than a 120, what would happen?
 First come, first serve.
o Discussion
 We should fund the arts!
 It was really cool how they stepped out the box and it’s new!
 It’s about $15 per person versus $30 a person.
 Really awesome how they reached out to the community.
Not that much to fund.
o Fund request has been approved with 2 abstentions noted.
Hutch Hall-Casino Night: ceiling of $215.00
o All campus event where students play casino games
o Saturday, February 28th, 7pm-11pm
o Most money will be spent on food and prizes.
o The total cost of the program is $1145
o NRHH will be put on all publicity.
o Questions
 Will you write an OTM for the program?
 Yes.
o Discussion
 Casino night went successful last year so optimistic for this year.
 There will be cool green visors there.
o Fund request has been approved with 4 abstentions.
First Year Experience Halls-Be a Part, Reach a Heart: ceiling of $150.00
o A service trip for a weekend to Chicago.
o 48 first year students will be able to go.
 It’s a great way for students to create community among each
other and stay connected through their time at UW-L.
o There are various service opportunities that students get to be a part of
during the weekend.
o Lydia News cruise, senior breakfast, dress for success, fresh market bag
delivery.
o The total of this trip is $3370.
 Majority of funds are coming from ORL and FYE Halls.
o Question
 When is the trip?
 April 10 and 11th.
o Discussion
 How is this being split in our budget?
 Maybe split from 3 halls. Maybe from non-res life fund.
Will talk to Troy.
 Is the money that they are spending valued in what they are?
 Are halls close to spending their allotted budgeted money?
 Not really.
 Students still benefited from the trip last year and is still valuable
for them to do it.
 Speaking from experience, it was a great experience and $150 is
not a lot and felt like we made an actual impact especially in the

 How many people are going?
 48 first year students.

Orris White-Little Party Never Killed Nobody: ceiling of $275.00
o It’s a 1920 murder-mystery party
o A dance in Port O’Call
o Travel in groups around Cartwright.

o Asking $275 each from NRHH, RHAC and AA.
o NRHH will be on publicity

 When it is?
 March 6th, 7pm-9:30pm
 How close will it be to clue?
 Each hall will have a character.
 Will there be live eagles there?
 No
 Do you have to solve the murder to win prizes?
 No, but if you do you can collect more tickets.
 Will having large groups danger the chance of involvement?
 Planning on having small groups.
o Discussion
 Think it will be a great event.
 Great idea for involving each hall as a character.
 Really cool that they are using Cartwright as a building especially
when it’s not used very often.

Wentz Hall-90’s Throwback Night: ceiling of $300.00
o Saturday, March 7th from 8pm-Midnight
o Dancing, crafting, space jamming, pokemon-ing. 90s Cartoon watching,
N-64ing
o The program will cost $1500
 Wentz will be covering $700
o NRHH money will be focused on buying prizes.
 Looking at getting Gameboys
o NRHH will be on all publicity.
o Will write an OTM for the program.

 How is money being broken down?
 Each themed room will have a prize basket pertaining to
each theme.
 How is the Pokemon room going to look?
 Not sure. Paul is not in charge of that room.

Student Association-We Love Our UW-La Crosse: ceiling of $185.00
o It is a page to show we love our campus pertaining to campus,
professors, faculty, stories, etc.
o We are asking NRHH to help fund for paper supplies.
o We thought NRHH would be a great place to ask money because this
page is meant to show recognition.
o Questions
 What is the reason to going to Michaels for supplies?
 We didn’t want to assume we could get donations from
the residence halls and just take them.
 Have you reached out to other UW schools to start this initiative?
 Yes, it is in the works.
o Discussions
 I love the recognition built into this.
 Concerned due to the political backstory behind the UW budget
proposal and don’t know what could happen if we sponsor them.
 Does SA have funds they can use?
 Yes
 Concerned for buying things from Michaels. Could they find a
cheaper place to buy them from?
 $70 is a lot of money to spend for envelopes.
 If we put our money into the, I feel like we are supporting their
views.
 Liked how any supplies that are left over will come back to us.
 Just seems like if they have money to use, they just want us to

 I think as individuals we have the right to support it or not but as
an organization we cannot make that call.

I think as an organization I don’t think it’s our place to take a
stance because everyone in the organization might not agree with
the stance.

o Volunteering at the clock tower for We Love our UW-L is now “cancelled”
due to the unaware political background.

o Discussion
 Would we be able to differentiate helping out with a program
versus being helping out the community?
 Are we volunteering or serving?
 Eagle Haunted house counted towards it so would be
backtracking?
 Could it be half and half? 2 hours at the program and 2 hours in
the community.
 We shouldn’t be doing service out of convenience; we should be
doing it out of sacrifice.
 Would programs outside of residence life be counted?
o Proposal for residence life programs to count as service hours was not
passed with 5 abstentions noted.
o Proposal for non-residence life programs to be counted only up to 50%
hours as service as been passed with 5 abstentions noted.

o We are going to attempt to a chapter serving experience together.

o It was fun.
o Events that were spoken at that meeting have passed already.

o UW-L is adding a 3rd and 4th level to the parking ramp.
 1st-3rd floor will be commuter, 4th floor will be residential.
 Over a 100 parking spots will be relocated during constrution
