STIS Science Morning SMOV Report: 24 July 2009 Outlines • Tiger Team Recommendations • Current Instrument Status • Forward Plan STIS SMOV Morning Report July 24, 2009 Tiger Team Recommendations and Forward Plan Analysis: • Original failure to get time update from MIE (MAMA Interface Electronics) appears not to have recurred since MIE was reset. • Consistent with SEU (Single Event Upset) • Subsequent suspends following the use of the OMIE2RAM macro appear to be similar to 1997 suspend event HSTAR 6235 where the STIS microprocessor appears to have stopped allowing higher priority tasks to interrupt the ongoing task • HSTAR 6235 also followed use of OMIE2RAM • Underlying cause of these suspends is not yet understood Recommendations: • The Tiger Team recommends the resumption of STIS MAMA Operations via SMS » No special actions required (protections are adequate) • Proceed with the planned acquisition of FUV darks and internals on the next SMS » Insert at least a day or so between the initial FUV exposures and the resumption of the NUV SMOV Ramp up • Allows intervention time if needed (highly unlikely) • Proceed with STIS SMOV Timeline for NUV (complete HV ramp-up visits 3 and 4) • Continue with SMOV Activities • Do not purposely command OMIE2RAM Forward Plan for Tiger Team: • Will continue investigation into underlying cause as resources permit.
