Updated COS Blind Pointing Analysis

Slew Analysis

centroid continues
to be at
approximately +0.3
arcsec in both
along-dispersion
(AD) and crossdispersion (XD)
directions; sigma
~0.4 arcsec in both
coordinates
– No clear indication
of time-evolution
of centroid

Updated COS Blind Pointing Analysis
•
Repeated ACQ/IMAGE acquisitions with same target coordinates
– Pointing offset between individual pointings is very small and consistent with
guide star uncertainties
– Average offset from centroid of all pointings is consistent with coordinate
quality for this target
– Continue to review: possible SIAF update is required

COS NUV High S/N Analysis

NUV High S/N
Observations (Program
11481)
– Co-add four FP-POS
spectra of same target
– Demonstrates S/N per
resel in excess of 100:1
for all M mode gratings
– Poisson S/N can be
recovered up to
approximately 70:1

COS NUV Dark Evolution
•
NUV Dark (Program
11466)
– Dark count has increased
from ~70 cts/sec over
entire detector area to
showing signs of leveling
off ~150 cts/sec in midOctober
– Presently under further
analysis
• Possibly temperature related
• Possibly increased
polulation of metastable
states in detector faceplate
– Remains below initial onorbit predictions based on
ground data (~225
cts/sec)
