AUTUMN PARISH RETREAT AT EASTERN POINT IN GLOUCESTER
This semi annual retreat is an opportunity to enter more deeply into the mystery of God’s
love for us. You will have an opportunity for spiritual conversation, silent prayer and
gatherings of prayer and worship with members of the parish community. The retreat will be held
Friday, November 5th to Sunday, November 7th. The cost for the weekend is $200 (all inclusive), with a
deposit of $100 at registration. If anyone is in need of financial assistance in order to attend, please let us

TO: SEEKONK - The Old Grist Mill Tavern for lunch at noon. The Mill dates from 1745. The
tavern is set on a lovely pond and there is a small waterfall, as well.
TO: ATTLEBORO – The National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette. The
spacious grounds include the Shrine church, a Chapel of Light, a Rosary Pond,
outdoor Stations of the Cross, grottoes and a large gift shop.
TO: ST. IGNATIUS, by about 4:00 PM
COST: $35, which includes bus and lunch

ON-GOING DONATIONS REMINDER:
Both Shattuck
Shelter and the Family Van are always grateful for donations of travelsize shampoos and lotions (even the ones you get at hotels) and toothpaste
and toothbrushes. In addition, the Family Van needs donations of largersized diapers and ready-made baby formula, while Shattuck Shelter
is always in need of new white socks and t-shirts. These donations
can be put in the hampers that are at the side front entrances of
the upper church.
Also, your local food pantry is always hoping
for more donations, so consider giving them a helping hand, too!

Suzanne and Brayton Shanley of the Agape Center for peace and non violence invite everyone to attend
their annual St. Francis Day celebration featuring Women and War: Finding Our Voices, Reclaiming Our
Legacy, on October 9th, 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. at the Agape Center in Hardwick, Massachusetts. Martha
Hennessy, grandchild of Dorothy Day, and women who have experienced the war in Iraq and
Afghanistan, as well as the daughter of survivors of Hiroshima, will be sharing their stories. For

Book Discussion - On October 17th at 11:15 there will be a discussion of the book Traveling with
Pomegranates: A Mother and Daughter Journey to the Sacred Places of Greece, Turkey, and France by Sue Monk
Kidd (the author of The Dance of the Dissident Daughter and The Secret Life of Bees), and co-authored
with her daughter Ann Kidd Taylor. Please join us in the rectory living room on October 17th.

Pet Blessing
In honor of the Feast of St. Francis (October 4), our middle school students will be leading a
service to bless pets (real and stuffed) on Sunday, October 3 at 12:00pm on the church lawn. This
is a service project for them in conjunction with their class on the theme of Care for Creation
within the framework of Catholic Social Teaching. All pets are welcome, but for their safety and
the safety of their humans and fellow animals, all pets should be leashed or caged (as appropriate).

THE SACRAMENTS
BAPTISM
Adults are baptized at the Easter Vigil as part of the Rites of Christian Initiation for
Adults. Infant and child baptisms are by arrangement.
FIRST EUCHARIST
Preparation occurs in Grade 1 and includes classes, retreats and home instruction.
CONFIRMATION
Our Confirmation program begins in the 9th grade. Students are confirmed in the
Spring of the 10th grade. Young adults who have been catechized but are not yet
confirmed should contact the rectory for an alternative program.
MATRIMONY
Must be registered as a parishioner six months prior to beginning Marriage
arrangements.
RECONCILIATION
Saturdays 3:15 - 3:45 PM Upper Church or by arrangement
ANOINTING OF THE SICK by arrangement
