Eick Saturday, October 6, 2012 9:00 Margaret C. Puzo 4:00 Ruth Crowley Geddis & William James Geddis Dear Parishioners. In the first reading today we hear the words: "Would that all the people of God were prophets and would receive the Spirit of the Lord!" It seems to me that the whole parish were recipients of this Spirit last weekend during the Masses and afterwards. In each liturgy, we pray that the Holy Spirit come down upon us so that we may become the Body of Christ and announce the Good News to all. It was evident to me that this was happening as I saw so many folks gathering in the tent, sharing food at the tables, speaking to each other and enjoying the each other's company. I am so grateful for all the efforts that so many people made so that these two days would be so successful. And, of course, I thank God for the beautiful weather! I also saw this wonderful spirit during our Jamaica Night. It was not only a great opportunity to gather in support of the very important fundraising effort for St. Anne's Park, but also we raised $24,000 which enabled us to supersede our goal of $40,000. I do not have words to express my gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of this event. As always, I am so grateful to God for such a generous community that gathers in the love of Christ each Sunday! In Christ's love, Father Bob FALL PARISH RETREAT AT EASTERN POINT IN GLOUCESTER This semi-annual retreat is an opportunity to enter more deeply into the mystery of God’s love for us. AUTUMN EVENINGS AT THE MANSE Book Discussion Group It’s time once again to enjoy an evening of good conversation with your fellow parishioners. As usual, our group will meet Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM at the Jesuit residence, 130 Beacon Street. We start on Wednesday, October 17th and finish on November 14th. Also as usual, our hosts will be Frs. Bob and J.A. Our book this time around is Things Hidden: Scripture as Spirituality by Richard Rohr (Cincinnati OH: St Anthony Messenger Press, 2008). Father Rohr writes in the introduction: “I offer these reflections to again unite what should never have been separated: sacred Scripture and Christian spirituality.” While spirituality has always been Rohr’s specialty, none other than Walter Bruggemann, one of the world’s great interpreters of the Old Testament, had this to say: “Things Hidden is an invitation of Gospel proportions to move on into the life God intends, a life of joy and obedience.” The reading should provide an opportunity for a rich discussion of both sacred scripture and contemporary spirituality in people’s real lives. As always, space is limited and advance registration is absolutely necessary. Please let Betty McLaughlin know if you will be attending (Ignatius@bc.edu) or 617-552-6102. The book should be available through Amazon.com or local religious bookstores. OUTREACH MINISTRIES October 17th – Senior Parishioners’ Fall Foliage Trip. The film depicts some of the world's first "climate refugees" inhabitants of the Carteret Islands near Papua New Guinea. Afterwards, we will discuss the film in light of Catholic teaching. This event provides a concrete response to Pope Benedict's World Day of Peace Message "Can we remain indifferent before the problems associated with such realities as climate change...Can we disregard the growing phenomenon of environmental refugees?" OCTOBERFEST WITH MUSIC AND A PARTY Please join us for an Organ Recital given by renowned Organist, Dr. Thomas Reuter, University of Vienna on Sunday, October 28th at 8:00 pm in the Upper Church. A Reception will follow.
