FALL BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP
Our Fall Discussion Group is now forming. We will meet, as usual, at the Jesuit residence, 130 Beacon
Street, at 7:30 PM for six consecutive Wednesday evenings beginning on October 15 and ending on
November 19 .
th
th
Frs. Bob and J. A. will host the meetings. This season’s book will be Eager to Love: The Alternative Way of
Francis of Assisi (Cincinnati, OH: Franciscan Media, 2014).
This brand new book by well-known author Richard Rohr is an exploration of mysticism for the new
millennium through the lens of Sts. Francis of Assisi and Clare. Rohr situates this “alternative
orthodoxy” not only in their own place and time but also in the person of the new Bishop of Rome who
took Francis’ name. Typical of Rohr’s style, the book is filled with “bumper-sticker” gems that should
encourage a lively discussion. It also paves the way to understand better the style and practical
spirituality of the Jesuit who is now Pope.
The book should be available from religious bookstores and is available in several formats through
Amazon.com.
Space is limited as always. To reserve a place, please contact Betty in the office (Ignatius@bc.edu or 617552-6102) as soon as possible.
WELCOME BACK! WANT MORE INSIGHT INTO THE READINGS YOU HEAR AT MASS?
Join us for PASTA & PRAYER, a prayerful conversation with friends over dinner to
discuss the Sunday scriptures. Feed your body, mind and soul!! The next session, “A
New Heavens and a New Earth”, discussing the readings for the Advent Season, will take
place on Thursday, October 16 in the Dining Room at the Parish Office from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. Newcomers are always welcome! Prior registration required: Call Catherine at 617782-5812 or e-mail to cfdesq@hotmail.com, to reserve a place at the table.
TH
LITTLE ROCK SCRIPTURE STUDY
This semester, we are studying The Book of Job. The plight of Job leads him to challenge the religious
wisdom of his age as he begs God to explain his suffering. His friends accuse him of sin, but by
journeying with Job through his affliction, we are compelled to ponder innocent suffering and the
ultimate value of friendship with God. The study began on Tuesday, September 23 at 7:15 pm in the
Lannon Chapel. The cost is $7.00, which includes a commentary, study guide and video presentation of
the study. New members are always welcome. To register, you may call the Parish Office, 617-552-6102.
If you have any questions, please call John Dafarra 781-899-9540.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES
OUR AT-THE-DOOR COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND is to support the
St. Ignatius Habitat for Humanity ministry. Look for the Habitat hard hat
at any church exit! Contributions to this collection directly support
teams of St. Ignatius parishioners who volunteer their labor at Bostonarea Habitat projects throughout the year. Proceeds are used to
purchase needed building materials. For almost twenty years, the St. Ignatius program has
supported Habitat’s mission to enable local working families to fulfill their dream of home
ownership.
FALL TRIP: Our Senior Parishioners cordially invite you to join them for their annual
fall trip (with great foliage colors, it is hoped!). The trip, on Wednesday, October
15th, will include a visit to the Enfield Lookout at Quabbin Park and Reservoir in
Ware/Belchertown, followed by lunch at Salem Cross Inn in West Brookfield. If you
would like more information about the trip, please contact Sr. Diane at 617-5526107.
NEWTON HUNGER WALK – re-imagined: Eliot Church of Newton is sponsoring
a Church World Service CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 5th, beginning at
12:30PM.
Please call 617-244-3639 for registration information.

distributed locally and globally.
SATURDAY/SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18TH/19TH: Adult Winter Clothing Drive for St.
Francis House Day Shelter.
FAMILY MINISTRY: PARENTS OF LITTLES GROUP
There will be an informational meeting for families interested in forming small
playgroup/faith sharing groups following the 10AM and 5:30PM Masses on Sunday,
September 21 in the Friary Room. The vision for the groups is to form sharing groups of
3-4 families, depending on children’s ages, for a home-based, monthly gathering. The
focus would be to provide social, emotional, and spiritual support to new parents; and provide young
families with an opportunity to reflect on faith, vocation to married/family life and early catechesis. If
you would like more information please contact Leah Perez at lmtperez@gmail.com.

Queridos Parroquianos,
¡Hay mucho que quiero compartir con ustedes!. La semana pasada tuvimos una reunión del
Consejo Pastoral y me animó muchísimo.
nuestros idiomas y nuestras culturas.
