As usual, our group will meet Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM at the Jesuit residence, 130 Beacon Street. We start on Wednesday, October 17th and finish on November 14th. Also as usual, our hosts will be Frs. Bob and J.A. Our book this time around is Things Hidden: Scripture as Spirituality by Richard Rohr (Cincinnati OH: St Anthony Messenger Press, 2008). Father Rohr writes in the introduction: “I offer these reflections to again unite what should never have been separated: sacred Scripture and Christian spirituality.” While spirituality has always been Rohr’s specialty, none other than Walter Bruggemann, one of the world’s great interpreters of the Old Testament, had this to say: “Things Hidden is an invitation of Gospel proportions to move on into the life God intends, a life of joy and obedience.” The reading should provide an opportunity for a rich discussion of both sacred scripture and contemporary spirituality in people’s real lives. As always, space is limited and advance registration is absolutely necessary. Please let Betty McLaughlin know if you will be attending (Ignatius@bc.edu) or 617-552-6102. The book should be available through Amazon.com or local religious bookstores. PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN PROGRAM The Archdiocese of Boston requires all volunteers (in whatever capacity) to complete a training program in child abuse protection. If you are thinking of becoming a volunteer in any of our ministries (lector, coordinator of liturgy, choir member, etc.), or if you are already a new volunteer in any ministry, you must be able to verify your attendance at a Protecting God’s Children (PGC) program. If you have completed this program in another location, you should have a certificate of attendance given you at that time. We need a copy of that certificate. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the appropriate supervisor of your ministry. We have scheduled the next session on October 28th from 2:00 – 4:30 pm. If you plan to attend this session, please contact Mary Blackburn (617-552-6039) or Betty McLaughlin (617-552-6102 / ignatius@bc.edu) as soon as possible or at least before October 21, 2012. Space is always limited. Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe and secure atmosphere for all the children at St. Ignatius parish. Fr. J.A. Loftus, S.J. Chair, Child Abuse Prevention Team 1. 3.
