Sunday Morning Book Discussion
On November 15 at 11:15 there will be a discussion of
the book Abounding in Kindness: Writing for the People
of God by Elizabeth Johnson. As one reviewer states,
“This collection of essays and lectures given by Elizabeth Johnson covers many of the theological topics that
she has studied and taught over the past decades and as
recently as the past two years, i.e., a theology of creation in relation to the Creator. Each of the essays is
thought provoking and pushes the readers to expand
their understanding of God beyond the classical, patriarchal conceptualizations of past centuries…. the essays
in this book make a concise summary of themes which
could lead the reader to seek out her other books for
more extended study.” If you missed the discussion of
this book with Frs. Bob and J.A. (or even if you didn’t),
you have another chance for discussion on November 15
in the living room of the parish center. Please join us.
We Remember…We Celebrate…We Believe
During the month of November, we invite
you to honor the memory of loved ones
who have gone before us in several ways:
by inscribing their names in the Book
of Remembrance
by donating a plant in their name, to
be used to make the church bloom during the Christmas or Easter seasons
by picking up a card containing special prayers to remember and celebrate your loved ones
Stop by the tables in the Gathering Space to participate.

Music Ministry Spotlight: The Children Carol Choir
The Carol Choir is the youngest singing ensemble at St.
Ignatius. Children from grades three through six are
members. There are also a few second graders, who are
considered on an individual basis. In addition to learning hymns and other liturgical music, the choir learns
the place of music in liturgy, basic musical and vocal
skills, and plays teaching games that are great fun. The
choir members enjoy meeting new friends, having a surprise treat, and some parties throughout the season.
We rehearse Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in the
Choir Media Room, on the lower level of the church. The
choir season is from September through early May. They
offer music at either 10 am Family Mass , or noon mass,
in the Upper Church, on a monthly basis. Two highlights of the season are Pumpkin Caroling, to a Senior
Residence, and the noon Good Friday Stations of the
Cross Service, in the Upper Church.
New members are welcomed through the season. Timothy Zimmerman conducts the choir, with Susan Moran
as accompanist. Please contact Timothy
zimmerta@bc.edu or 617.552.6114 for questions or more
information.

its first month of sessions. Everyone seems to have settled in and is off to a great year. This past weekend
many of our classes worked on a service project for refugee families coming to the US for Catholic Charities. All
classes learned about saints (past and present) and our
common call to live holy lives modeled after the saints.
Please refer to our website and Faith Formation
webpage for specific program and calendar information
or contact Susan Stuart or Anabella Morabito with any
questions.

Confirmation Retreat a Success
Thank you to all who made the Confirmation Retreat
possible: the retreat team leaders and coordinators, the
catechists, the chaperones, the confirmandi who participated, the parents who helped in driving and bringing
snacks, all the loved ones who sent in palancas, and to
this wonderful community of faith that continues to
support experiences of growth and communion for
youth. It was an amazing weekend. We look forward to
seeing you all at the Spring 2016 Confirmation Retreat
and we encourage all who were not able to participate to
come along next time!
Outreach Ministries
Habitat Build: We will again be sup-
porting Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston in its
mission to provide affordable housing for deserving families by spending a Saturday working at a Habitat building site in a Boston neighborhood. That date is December 5 and we need a few more volunteers! If you would
like to be part of our Build Team, please contact Anton
Finelli, afinelli@crmcx.com, or Sr. Diane
Vallerio, vallerio@bc.edu.
Holiday Outreach: Next weekend, our two major efforts
will kick off. The Gift Drive tree, with close to
800 ornaments, will be set up in the Gathering Space. In addition, sign-ups will begin
for our December 5 Pine Street Inn Shattuck Shelter Holiday Meal. We’ll need food
donations, as well as “time” donations for
kitchen prep and serving at the Shelter.
Please stop by the Gathering Space to decide how you will be involved in these efforts.
November is Pledge Month
On the weekend of November 14 and 15, members of the
Finance Council will be speaking at all of the Masses to
say more about the Fr. Bob Legacy Fund as well as encouraging your participation in the Annual Appeal. The
parish has some serious structural repairs on the horizon
and any financial help you can lend is deeply appreciated. More details can be found in Father’s Bob’s Wish List
below.

Database Manager. Kyles’ primary responsibilities include updating and managing the parish database, parish registrations, tracking pledge participation, and automating many of our forms, registration and payment
processes.
Kyle came to the Parish Office in March of this year and
has been a wonderful addition to the staff. He is a native
of Maine and is the fourth of eight children!
Support for Fair Share Amendment
This weekend you will have the opportunity of signing
the petitions to put the Fair Share Amendment on the
ballot for vote. This initiative is supported by the Archdiocese of Boston and the US Conference of Catholic
Bishops.
There has been a 35% cut over the last 10 years to the
State Local Aid grants to our communities for our
schools, when inflation is factored in. The cost to go to
state colleges goes higher and higher. Our roads and
bridges need repair and our MBTA system needs massive repairs.
The Fair Share Amendment will raise $1.4 Billion in new
state funding to go to our schools, keeping state colleges
affordable, job training, adult basic education, and fixing roads, bridges and the MBTA.We hope you will sign
the petition so we can greatly better our education and
transportation services
La Pagina Hispanica
Queridos parroquianos,
considera plenamente realizado;
a su gusto. Entregate con confianza ciega en este Dios
ue te uiere para El.
ue llegara hasta ti, aunque no le veas nunca.
Piensa que te encuentras en sus manos, mas fuertemente
sostenido,
cuando mas decaido y triste te encuentres. Vive feliz. Te
lo suplico. Vive en paz. Que nada te turbe. Que nada sea
capaz de quitarte tu paz.
i el cansancio psiquico.
confia.

Father Bob’s Wish List
St. Ignatius is a beautiful building that has been my
spiritual home for 27 years. Over those 27 years I estimate that I have had the honor of celebrating Mass,
10,000 times (give or take!) Then there would be baptisms, weddings, prayer services and other liturgies.
Over those years I have seen the beauty of the church
building enhanced by a new lighting system, additional
Organ console and pipes, baptismal font and sanctuary
extension (predella), restored baptistery tower, (now
Chapel of Reservation). On the lower level we renovated
the Friary Room, kitchen and transformed the boiler
room into a wonderful choir media room. On the more
functional side, we have added a new heating and cooling system. We also added three lifts and a handicap
ramp to provide accessibility for all.
I am aware that an old stone building like St. Ignatius
will always need upkeep and ongoing maintenance. MY
FIRST WISH IS FOR THE REPAIR OF THE BUTTRESS ON THE COMMONWEALTH AVE SIDE OF
THE CHURCH. This section of the church is in critical
need of repair as it affects the organ chamber.
One of my highest priorities as pastor has been the aesthetic element of our liturgical worship. We have been so
blessed to have the musical artistry of Michael Burgo
and Timothy Zimmermann for so many years and now
that of Paul Melley. Countless musicians, singers and
instrumentalists have animated our liturgy with exquisite beauty and reverence. We also have been blessed to
have the dance artistry of the Boston Liturgical Dance
Ensemble that has contributed a unique form of prayer
and praise. MY SECOND WISH IS FOR A FUND THAT
CONTINUES TO SUPPORT THE ARTS IN WORSHIP
AT ST. IGNIATIUS. Beautiful music, dance and environment are the sine qua non of our prayer and worship
at St Ignatius.
The Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius have been at the
heart of my spiritual Journey as a Jesuit. They have
animated by pastoral leadership. One of the greatest
gifts I have been given and shared are our parish retreats at Eastern Point Retreat House. MY THIRD
WISH IS FOR A FUND THAT SUPPORTS THE PARISH RETREATS AT EASTERN POINT. Given that the
cost of these retreats has increased over the years, I
would like to assure that anyone who would like to make
the parish retreat would have the financial support necessary.
ur sister parish in Jamaica, t Anne’s, has been another blessing for me during my pastorate. The parish trips
to Jamaica and the projects that we have undertaken
like the painting of the church, the building of the playground, the computer center for the school and so much
more have helped us as a parish to be connected to the
wider church, a sister parish that has so few resources
other than its people. MY FOURTH WISH IS FOR A
FUND THAT PROVIDES ONGOING SUPPORT FOR ST.
ANNE’S PARISH.
