REFUGEE AWARENESS ON WORLD DAY FOR MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES
Pope Francis has a special concern for refugees and has designated 1/19/2014 as World Day for Migrants
and Refugees. The St. Ignatius ARRUPE group (Assisting Refugee Resettlement Using Parish Energies)
will offer a refugee awareness session in the Media Room in the lower church at 11 am on 1/19/2014.
Find out what the Church does to help refugees: globally, around the US, in Massachusetts and right here
at St. Ignatius Parish. A brief presentation will be accompanied by a screening of the Irish film: Crossing
Salween, dealing with a young Burmese girl's journey to freedom across the border. Don't miss it! If you
can’t make it on that date, but want to know more, email: engler [at] bc.edu or devlin.jane [at] gmail.com

fundraising through the Walk for Hunger. All year long, Project Bread transforms lives through

Answer from Last Week:
HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW
YOUR CHURCH?
What is the name of the vessel used to burn
incense during the Mass?
MASS-TERING THE LITURGY
THURIBLE
What color is used twice a
year, once during Advent, on
Gaudete Sunday, and once
during Lent on Laetare
Sunday?
The Thurible is carried by the Thurifer.
The work “thurible” comes from the Old
French thurible, which in turn is derived
from the Latin term thuribulum. The Latin
thuribulum is further formed from the
root, thus meaning incense. Thus is an
alteration of the Greek word thuos, which
is derived from thuein to sacrifice.

Del Escritorio del Padre Bob
Queridos Parroquianos,
Padre Bob
THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONSTITUTION ON THE SACRED LITURGY
“In the earthly liturgy we take part in a foretaste of that heavenly liturgy celebrated in the holy city of Jerusalem”
(Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 8)
We think of Jerusalem as both the earthly city where Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection took place and the
heavenly city to which we aspire. In this sense Jerusalem is the heavenly kingdom. In this heavenly Jerusalem, we
will be united to God and one another in a deep bond of love, peace, and joy. Liturgy is a foretaste, a glimpse, of
what the final destination will be like for us: a deep communion with God. In the present, we build communion
through the words, prayers, music, actions, and gestures of the liturgy. God is present and empowering us to become
what God desires: his holy people. While God’s immense goodness and love cannot be known fully in the present,
the liturgy gives a glimpse of this deep love of communion.
