We invite you to join with your fellow St. Ignatius parishioners in continuing to read Pope Francis’ exhortation to the worldwide church. th On Sunday, January 11 , after the 10 AM Mass, we invite you to join other parishioners in the choir room downstairs for refreshments and a discussion of Chapter Two. There is no need to have “studied up” in advance – all are welcome. th Another discussion group will gather on Tuesday, January 13 , at 7:15 PM in the Parish Offices, 2 Floor Living Room. You are most welcome to attend. Again, no need to have done the reading in advance. th nd The Spiritual Life Commission is also offering a Mid-Winter Film Night on Saturday, January 24 . Come witness the “Joy of the Gospel” in solidarity with the poor as we encounter the life of Dorothy Day depicted in the film Entertaining Angels, starring Moira Kelly and Martin Sheen. We begin at 5:00pm with a soup and bread supper, followed by film viewing and discussion. Donation at the door ($5 suggested) to support Haley House, the Catholic Worker House of Hospitality in Boston and their bakery training program. Please RSVP by January 20 to the Parish Offices. th th th To help you pray and reflect with The Joy of the Gospel, here are reflection questions for Chapter Two: 1. In what ways am I negatively affected by a culture of prosperity? What can I do to make sure that I value people over money or possessions? 2. How can I help change the culture where I live? What might God be calling me to do to evangelize the culture, either individually or with other Christians? 3. Am I tempted to a “practical relativism” by acting as if God does not exist? Am I tempted to guard my free time? Am I overly fatigued by the work I do for the Church? How can I grow in hope and be a source of living water from which others can drink? 4. How can I avoid a selfish “spiritual consumerism” and self-centeredness, and instead develop a generosity of spirit that develops deep bonds with others? What changes might I have to make in my life so that I am truly giving of myself and involved in the lives of others? 5. How might I be an agent of healing among people who disagree or an unreconciled? If I am angry with someone, can I pray for that person? How is such a prayer an act of evangelization? 6. Why is it important to recognize “feminine genius” and create broader opportunities women in the Church? Our thanks to The Word Among Us Press for these questions.
