Once again we invite you to consider joining our Book Discussion Group that will be hosted by Frs. Bob
and J.A. at the Jesuit residence (130 Beacon Street). We meet on Wednesday evenings from 7: 30 – 9:00
P.M. starting on March 4th and ending on April 22nd. There are two weeks when we will not meet
(March 11 and April 1 ). The book we have chosen is a marvelous new one by Professor Amy-Jill Levine
called Short Stories by Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi (N. Y.: Harper Collins,
2014). The author is University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity
School. She describes herself as “a Yankee, Jewish feminist who teaches in a predominantly Christian
divinity school in the buckle of the Bible belt.”
Reviewers have called the book “brilliant,” one to
“change how you think about Jesus and the stories he told,” and one that “belongs next to your bible.” It
should be a great read and discussion. The book is be available in selected bookstores and on
Amazon.com. Space, as always, is limited. Please indicate your desire to join us by contacting Betty in
the office at Ignatius@bc.edu or through 617-552-6102 as soon as possible. Any questions? Feel free to

OUTREACH MINISTRIES
RICE BOWL COUNTRY OF THE WEEK: NICARAGUA
Catholic Social Teaching Focus: Care for God’s Creation
In 2007, more than 45 percent of the Nicaraguan population was living on less than $1 per
day. The highest concentration of the Nicaraguan poor live in the coffee producing rural
Central-North region, where 74 percent of the population is poor and where children are
much more likely to be chronically malnourished. In Nicaragua, many farmers depend on
coffee for more than 80 percent of their household income. CRS is working with 2,714
smallholder coffee farm families living in Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.
The CRS Fair Trade Network provides technical and financial assistance to help farmers
improve farming, harvesting and processing techniques so they can meet the demands of
the market.
CRS RICE BOWL is Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten faith-in-action program for families and faith
communities. CRS Rice Bowls/Lenten Calendars are available on the Outreach table or on the
table in the Lannon Chapel.
IF IT’S MARCH, IT MUST BE SOCKS AND FLIP-FLOPS! We’re conducting our
month-long drive to provide new white socks and new shower flip-flops to Boston
Health Care for the Homeless Program for use at its many foot care clinics Boston. Our
drive dates are March 1st-March 29th. There is a collection box by the Outreach
table and one in the hallway by the church kitchen. Don’t you just love a pair of
clean, dry socks???
JUST 62 DAYS UNTIL THE WALK FOR HUNGER! The Walk for Hunger is an
extraordinary event sustained by ordinary people. Over 46 years, the Walk has
generated more than a hundred million dollars through individual contributions of
less than $100 - a powerful demonstration of neighbors caring for neighbors. The
Walk brings together people from many different communities and cultures, but
everyone comes to offer hope to hungry people and to support Project Bread’s
fresh approach to ending hunger: programs that help to provide sustainable access to healthy,
nutritious food to those in need. WALK registration materials will be available on the Outreach
table very soon.
HABITAT BUILD: We will again be supporting Habitat for Humanity Greater
Boston in its mission to provide affordable housing for deserving families by
spending a Saturday working at a Habitat building site in a Boston neighborhood.
That date is March 21st and we need more builders! If you would like to be part of our Build
Team, please contact Anton Finelli, afinelli@crmcx.com, or Sr. Diane Vallerio, vallerio@bc.edu.
LITTLE ROCK SCRIPTURE STUDY

salvationand is the free gift of God’s love. Through letters to the fledgling communities, Paul offers
reasons for hope and joy. The study will begin on Wednesday, March 11th at 7:15 pm in the Old Choir
Room, Lower Church. The cost is $11.00, which includes a commentary, study guide and DVD
presentation of the study. New members are always welcome. To register, you may call the Parish

primera pregunta parece obvia.
BOOK DISCUSSION
On March 22 at 11:15 there will be a discussion of the book Signs: Seven Words of Hope by Jean Vanier.
An Amazon reviewer suggests, “If you are lookng at your life and thinking: I want to be who God made
me to be, I want to make a difference with my life, you need to read this book, and pray on it. Pray on it
very much. And then ask yourself: Can I be that humble?” Plan to join us in the living room of the
parish center on March 22 and give us your reaction to this book.
SAINT JOHN PAUL II CATHOLIC ACADEMY
Saint John Paul II Academy is a 1200 student school located on four campuses in Dorchester and
Mattapan. The largest elementary school in Boston, it serves mostly low income children on scholarship.
Its mission is to provide a safe, nurturing and structured environment for its diverse student population
to grow in faith and knowledge. About sixty percent of the children are Catholic – all are welcome. The
majority of families (77%) apply for financial aid and, therefore, the school always appreciates assistance,
both monetarily and in volunteer time. Please consider a way you can help the next generation continue
in our faith. For more information, please email M.L. Greenidge at mlgreenidge@pjp2ca.org. Go to the
Outreach table for more information about SJPII Academy.
