COUNTRY OF THE WEEK: DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
Catholic Social Teaching Focus: Call to Community
The DRC has seen nearly 20 years of internal violence. This violence is one factor
contributing to food insecurity and high levels of malnutrition. The banana wilt
disease, or banana xanthomonas wilt, spreads rapidly and affects up to 80 percent
of banana farmers in some parts of the country. The banana wilt disease ultimately
leads to the death of the plant. CRS works with 380,000 vulnerable banana and
cassava farmers in DRC to introduce food production and disease mitigation
activities.
DON’T FORGET YOUR SOCKS AND FLIP-FLOPS! Our drive to provide
new white socks and new shower flip-flops to Boston Health Care for
the Homeless Program for use at its many foot care clinics Boston
wraps up next weekend. The collection box is by the Outreach table and there is one
in the hallway by the church kitchen. Don’t you just love a pair of clean, dry socks???
JUST 41 DAYS UNTIL THE WALK FOR HUNGER – MAY 3RD! Over forty-six years, the Walk has
generated more than a hundred million dollars through individual contributions of less than
$100 - a powerful demonstration of neighbors caring for neighbors. WALK registration
materials will be available on the Outreach table very soon. Or, you can go to
www.projectbread.org, find the Walk link and register, as an individual or a member of
TEAM IGNATIUS.
SHATTUCK FOURTH - TUESDAY, MARCH 24TH: Our monthly serving at
Pine Street Inn Shattuck Shelter continues and, as always, we’ll need
desserts. Desserts can be dropped off at the Parish Office any time
before 4PM on the 24th. Early-arriving donations can be left in the front entryway of the
Office building.
BLESSING OF EASTER FOOD: We will celebrate the Blessing of Easter
Food on Holy Saturday morning, April 4th, at 11AM, in the Parish
Center/Rectory Chapel (lower level). Many families begin their Easter celebration
with this custom. Perhaps you would like to start this tradition (or continue it) in your
family?
COMING… Saturday, April 25th – Pine Street Inn Shattuck Shelter Springtime Meal.
Sign-ups begin April 11th (for just two weekends).
Saturday/Sunday, May 2nd/3rd – Spring Clothing Drive for St. Francis House Day Shelter.
HABITAT BUILD: We will again be supporting Habitat for Humanity Greater
Boston in its mission to provide affordable housing for deserving families by
spending a Saturday working at a Habitat building site in a Boston neighborhood.
That date is May 30th and we need more builders! If you would like to be part of our Build Team,
please contact Anton Finelli, afinelli@crmcx.com, or Sr. Diane Vallerio, vallerio@bc.edu.

anciano!' ¡Qué hermoso!"
