DESCRIPTION:
Department of Social Services has an opening for a Social Worker II. Under general
supervision, performs professional social work services to clients in assigned program(s) in
Orange County. This position provides preventative and support services for a caseload of
12-16 teen parents enrolled in the Adolescent Parenting Program (APP).
Bilingual applicants with fluency in English and Spanish are preferred
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Provides intensive case management and supportive counseling that keeps teen parents in
school and builds self-esteem.
Conducts parenting education; Promotes delay of a second pregnancy; Plans and
facilitates monthly and bi-monthly support group meetings.
Publishes monthly newsletter and recruits, trains and supervises volunteer/ mentors.
Serves as agency liaison to the Community Advisory Committee, which is comprised of
representatives from local agencies and organizations.
Performs daily monitoring of program; maintains monthly reports; enters data accurately in
to computer system for all case records; completes timesheets and travel reimbursement
sheets.
Refers to North Carolina statutes, North Carolina Compulsory School policy, Orange
County school policy, Child Welfare law, System Services Information, System Users, North
Carolina Information System, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals,
publications and reference texts, etc.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in
social work, human services and related field and at least two years of social work or
counseling experience. MSW preferred
Requires possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State
of North Carolina.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
This is a Safety Sensitive position, pre-employment drug test is required.
