ORANGE COUNTY GOVERNMENT invites applications for the position of: Social Worker II - Adult Services* SALARY: $19.22 - $25.36 Hourly $39,978.00 - $52,743.00 Annually OPENING DATE: 11/30/15 CLOSING DATE: 12/15/15 11:59 PM DESCRIPTION: This position will provide counseling, support, and preventive services for disabled adults, the elderly, and their families. * This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assessing the needs for elderly and disabled adults who may require agency services. This includes conducting thorough interviews and gathering necessary information to assure individuals and families receive appropriate agency and community services as well as make adult protective service referrals as needed. Assessment and supportive counseling services are provided in the office and through home visits. Provides consultation/direction to clients and families of clients in need of appropriate group care placement. Requires knowledge of community resources and an understanding of poverty, substance abuse, and other social/medical conditions impacting individual/family well-being. Provides back up for all program areas in adult services. Rotates covering on call responsibilities. Supervision Assignments are generally provided by defining objectives, priorities, and deadlines. Additional assistance is provided for unusual situations that do not have clear precedents. This classification typically does not supervise. Distinguishing Factors This classification is distinguished from the Social Worker I classification by the range of cases, the difficulty of personal contacts and the theoretical knowledge required to perform the work. TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work. Knowledge of community resources for children, adults, and families. Knowledge of interviewing, counseling and crisis intervention theories and methods. Knowledge of relevant department, local, state and federal laws and regulations. Knowledge of legal and judicial system principles and procedures. Knowledge of theories related to children, adults and families. Skill in decision making and problem solving. Skill in assessing and evaluating clients’ needs. Skill in operating standard office equipment such as a computer, calculator, scanner, copier, facsimile machine, and audiovisual equipment. Skill in public and interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to provide good customer service. Ability to analyze, interpret, comprehend and communicate complex information and in complex situations. Minimum Requirements: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field and one to three years of social work or counseling experience.
