Metropolitan Community College DACC MEETING Thursday, September 11, 2013 3-4:30 PM AC Boardroom Minutes Attendees: Cynthia Sexton Proctor, Kristy Bishop, Karen Moore, Leo Hirner, Melissa Giese, Dachia Scroggins, Jim McGraw, Kim Glackin, Tristan Londre, Mindy McCallum, Mary Ann Blitt, Mary Northrup, Sybil Chandler, Melissa Eaton, Carrie Pickerel-Brooks, Joe Roche, Introduction of Members With the beginning of the academic year, there are many new members on the committee. Approval of Minutes The minutes were approved. Vice Chancellor for Educational Services & Technology Report No report IRB Report One IRB request was approved for an employee working on his doctorate from Capella. He is doing a pre/post survey in a LV COLL100 course. Kristy explained the importance of having an IRB committee especially when looking at definitions of what needs an IRB and what is Service Learning. The proposal needs to be reviewed by the PRP committee. HLC Committee Report • Criteria Co-Chairs are working with their teams. Next monthly meeting is on 9/17/13. Survey Reports • Tammie May and Melissa Giese are working on a survey to go out to sample of Cass County residents. The purpose is to assess their interest in higher education and having an MCC presence in Cass County. • The Applicant Survey (formerly known as the Prospect Survey) is being done again this fall. Melissa Giese is hiring 4 student workers to make phone calls to people who applied to MCC but did not enroll or attend. • Noel-Levitz will be done online this spring for both students and faculty. There is a consortium formed between MCC and many MO schools that will give us a group discount as well as provide us with a comparison group for benchmark data. • The Culture of Assessment surveys were administered at BTC, MW, and PV during in-service. BR and LV passed theirs out. Surveys are still being turned in from LV. Cynthia and Kristy are planning on submitting a proposal of the results for the HLC conference. MCC Open Pathway Improvement Project Report • The Culture of Assessment survey was conducted 2 years ago and this fall to measure changes in assessment at MCC. • Cohort 4 is assessing this semester. 1 Metropolitan Community College DACC MEETING Thursday, September 11, 2013 • • 3-4:30 PM AC Boardroom Disciplines from cohorts 1, 2, and 3 are meeting individually with Kristy Bishop and Cynthia Sexton Proctor to walk through and discuss assessment results. So far, meetings have been conducted with Library, Music, and Speech. Art and Geology/Geography are scheduled to meet on the afternoon of 9/13/13; Political Science on the afternoon of 9/16/13; Chemistry on the afternoon of 9/23/13; English on the afternoon of 9/25/13; Economics on 10/8/13; 7 others are in process of being scheduled. Disciplines of cohort 1 will begin the process of Discipline Review to be presented to the officers in spring 2014. Higher Learning Commission Update • Annual Conference in Chicago, IL, April 10-13, 2014. Proposals for presentations must be submitted to HLC by 9/30/13. Assessment Reports • Kristy Bishop distributed a draft of the Assessment Plan for 2013-2014. Sybil Chandler will update the CTE Assessment section and provide the updated information to Kristy Bishop. Please send any other additions or changes to Kristy to add to the Plan. Proposals for new assessment or survey requests • No report Campus Reports • DACC Membership – the membership list has been updated. There is an opening for a faculty member at BR. • BR – No report • BTC – Sybil and Joe are co-chairs of the assessment committee. The focus is mapping and sequences of courses. • LV – Met in August. There is discussion about merging the assessment and curriculum committees. • MW – The assessment committee and the curriculum committee were combined for a while and mostly focused on curriculum. They discussed separating these committees. • PV – The assessment and curriculum committees are currently merged. Dachia Scroggins will discuss this with Cheryl Carpenter Davis to see how they will proceed. • MO Health Wins –Jerome Williams is currently writing a report due for submission. Old Business • A Title III grant was submitted June 3rd. We should know very soon if we received it. • The 4th Annual Regional Assessment Conference for Community Colleges is March 28, 2014 in PV 019. We will be putting out a Call for proposals shortly. We hope to have enough sessions for 4 tracks this year; developmental education, student services, general education, and career & technical. The keynote speaker is Clifford Adelman. • North Central is interested in meeting to exchange Assessment Information. Kristy is presenting our General Education Assessment procedure to Johnson County Community College faculty on September 17th, 2013. 2 Metropolitan Community College DACC MEETING Thursday, September 11, 2013 • 3-4:30 PM AC Boardroom Kristy Bishop handed out the presentation that was given on Discipline Review at all of the campuses except BTC during in-service. BTC currently is using the CTE Program Review process. Additionally, the SWOT Analysis and Data Analysis Worksheet were distributed. The new process has been developed to be meaningful, sustainable, easy and inclusive. Disciplines will be on a 4 year cycle. The 1st cohort will begin this fall and will present results to the officers this spring. Kristy and Cynthia will work with the 1st cohort gathering feedback on the process and making adjustments as necessary. New Business • Tristan Londre is working on standardizing Credit by Exam at MCC. A comprehensive list of courses that offer credit by exam is being complied. Each discipline is being asked if they offer credit by exam and if so identifying the courses and instruments used. The goal is to get consensus to use one instrument in the future across the discipline. • The Assessment website has been updated and is still a work in progress. • Next meeting: 3 PM on October 10, 2013 in the AC Boardroom.
